Trent Green and his headache

Did anyone else see Trent Green's head get bounced off the turf yesterday? Quite possibly one of the worst hits I've ever seen.

I will ask for the opinons of those unbiased outside of KC. Am I wrong to think that there should have been a flag on that play, or was that a legitimate hit. Every time I watched it I thought it was obvious Green was sliding before the defender went to hit him. Any opinions?

I agree with you. I dislike the Chiefs, but Green was sliding and his head was targeted. I suspect the NFL will examine the film closely. The TV announcers were convinced it was a clean hit. I'm convinced the announcers are idiots.

In the summary from today's paper, said it was an illegal hit and the player will be fined.

That's what kept pis$ing me off, those announcers kept saying he was "blocked into him". If by blocked you mean that he leapt forward, put his head down, and hit the guy that was in a vulnerable position, the yes, I suppose he was blocked into him. I should be an announcer, as I have no problem with saying the first stupid thing that comes to mind.

Initial reports are that he will sit next week at Denver and may be ready after that. Having a bye in week 3 wound up being a good thing I suppose. It will give him nearly 3 weeks to recover.

that hit is worth more than a fine. A week or two off would serve better

He was blocked into Green to a point. However, he was already going down as if to prepare to "hit 'em low" even before the block occurred. Looks to me he was preparing to make a hit even if he wasn't blocked and even as Green was sliding.

I've seen unnecessary roughness penalties thrown for A LOT less than the hit Trent Green took.

Green gave himself up by sliding feet first. The defender LAUNCHED himself into Green at full speed. He made no attempt to pull back or avoid Green. I don't care if he might have been partially blocked into Green. I see rushers partially blocked into kickers and punters all the time, but you know what? the people blocked into kickers and punters don't use their full weight to GO THROUGH the kickers/punters.

    No Fine, Foul

"The NFL ruled Wednesday that Robert Geathers' hit on Chiefs quarterback Trent Green was not a foul because he did not have complete control of his body.

"In other instances this contact might be illegal, since a defensive player has the responsibility to avoid unnecessary contact even when he is blocked by an opponent. However, in this case, the late slide and the block in the back were mitigating factors," NFL senior vice president of football operations Ray Anderson said in a statement."

    Good call by the league.

Green appeared to be into his slide as Geathers body was already committed to the hit, there was no way he could stop his momentum. Not by any stretch do I ever want a player to be hurt but QB's outside the pocket and running get to much protection from the rules as it is. 25 years ago the play wouldn't even be considered a questionable hit.

    Eddited...Wishing Green a speedy recovery.

this story would be different if it was Peyton Manning or Tom Brady getting pole-axed, I have no doubt.

Good point, but the fact remains the same that it was not an illegal hit IMO

There's that east coast bias again. Just because Cincy's to the east of KC he gets off scott free. image

One note; if the hit was legal and there was no flag, then it was a fumble which Cincy recovered. Either way the refs missed something.

Oh, well. Here's hoping that Jake the Mistake returns this weekend to make it a little easier for us.
