This is disturbing - ShopCSNtv

I've got a glorious case of jet lag and work up fresh as a daisy at 0200 this morning. Popped on the tube and shopcsntv.com has their quarter sets for sale. How does this guy sleep at night.

I hit their web page and it's possibly worse than the commercial. Their prices are OUT OF CONTROL. A set of Proof Sacagawea's graded from a third party grader is $599. AAAARRRGGHHHH. And that's only one example.

They are just as guilty as the telephone marketers that pro-actively try to convince people why their overpriced coins are such a valuable deal. It's a total con!

The coin posse, ANA, U.S. Mint, and perhaps even the TPG's should band together to create a consumer awareness campaign about these rip-offs.

Unfortunately, the buyers won't know that they were screwed until they try to sell or ask a real collector or dealer. Probably lots of $$ and time later - if ever.

On second thought.... some people NEED to learn the hard way. A fool and his/her money are soon parted. Right? That may be another way of looking at it, but it would be a shame since it probably leaves the ripped-off buyers with a horrible distaste (and distrust) for the hobby.

Maybe 2 of the 3 would do that but who do you think is making a load of money grading these coins?

Chicolini: Mint? No, no, I no like a mint. Uh - what other flavor you got?

The mint does have an awareness program out there for the companies like The Collector's Mint or The Washington Mint or what have you.

    Here it is.

It even mentions colorised coins! image

More effective would be TV commericals to warn people of these ripoffs. The web site is nice but won't
    reach very many people.

Did anyone catch Robert's sidekick say that a coin was AU60 the other night??

Robert paused for just a second, like he was in disbelief that this guy would say something like that on live TV, and recovered by saying that these were all "high grade coins". I think they were on one of there Peace Dollar hoards!

people fall victim to this kind of marketing way too much. I helped out a really old guy (around 90) last year...he had purchased some gold coins from a company in Texas. The coins were American Eagle gold slabbed by PCGS (69s) and sold to him at double bullion value. He couldn't understand why his coins were worth so little relative what he paid when the company representative's pitch, letterhead, and business card all had references to US Mint on them.

Just about EVERYTHING touted for sale on TV has a huge markup. And the smaller the market, the higher the markup. Coins are no exception. The difference between wholesale and retail prices for jewelry is often 500% or more.
