Sorting through my junk, silvery 1940 1d

I have just been sorting out my junk to see what I can put on the bay and came across this 1940 double exergual penny which I had picked up as a curiousity. What attracted it to me was the silverly toning but then threw it in my spares box. Having just obtain a set of scales that read 0.01g I checked its weight which 9.14g. A normal 1940 weights in a 9.44g. Does anyone know what the weight range is for George pennies and do you think this it no more than a curiosity or could it be something more.

  • That's a discrepancy of just over 3-1/4% which is too much to be accounted for by that unfortunate rim ding at 11:57, but still probably within tolerance.

  • How do you get the picture to show in the thread rather than just the attachment.

Use the little window-thingy between the underlined U and the http box in the row right above the box you are typing in. You need the link to wherever the picture sits, either uploaded to pcgs, photobucket or wherever. You can get bigger/better photos if you use an outside host.
