SOLD - FSH: ND Kennedy 50c Double Struck 80% o/c K-5:00 DSR chain strike error

[phew -- do you think that's enough jargon in the title? image]

This is a clad Kennedy half dollar that has been struck twice, the first time normally and the second time about 80% off-center at K-5:00. The second strike is die-struck on both sides, which is slightly rarer than a uniface second strike.

Additionally, the second strike is a chain strike, meaning that it abutted a second coin/planchet during the second strike, resulting in slightly flattened edges where they touched. If the other piece also escaped the mint and could be located, it would make for a heck of a mated pair.

Unfortunately, the second strike pretty much obliterated the date area of the first strike, so the specific date on this piece is not nown. Too bad.

The photograph didn't pick it up, but this piece has a pale yellow toning, shading towards a light blue in the double-struck portion and on the reverse.

Minor errors on Kennedy halves are plenty common, but major striking errors (such as this one) are not.
