Got Silver!

It was an overcast and drizzle kind of day here in NY and instead of hitting the small riverside park (on banks of St.Lawrence) that I planned on, decided instead to check out a small campground that closed for the season last week. Had a guy tell me last year he found some indian head pennies and wheaties there- I wasn't really sure whether to believe him or not- he's kind of a BS'er at times. The campground is a popular spot for sport fisherman to stay and fish bass on a nearby lake, must have been a good spot for years- I don't think the campground is more than 40 years old, or around that age probably. Tried the area the guy told me he found the old pennies at, didn't get anything but trash and the rain started to get heavier, so I pulled my car down to the boat launch/swimming site (actually an area alot of people wade out in the water and fish). The rain let up and I headed for some reason straight for an old oak by river bank that had a larger flat moss covered rock next to it, and got a strong signal at the first pass- dug down about 3 inches and out came a quarter, I could tell by the shine it was silver! 1946 ! My oldest quarter so far metal detecting and sixth silver coin of the year (all the others being dimes). Spent the next three hours just at the launch site and came up with the coins below- total of 4 quarters, 9 dimes, 3 nickels (most nickels I have ever found in one day) and 28 pennies -25 memorial, 2 wheaties and one Canadian. The wheaties were heavily encrusted and I have them stuck in a spud for tonight, looks like the one was a 1917 ( or maybe a 27) and the other a 195? something. The Canadian pennie was in better shape and pretty old- a 1940. Also found the toy car- was kind of disappointed after cleaning it up that its not even a Hot wheels- but apparently its wheels and axles were- they were missing. The small bottle cap came right near the end of the hunt at edge of site near the woods along river bank, terrain was starting to get rough where I dug it, got a strong signal and when it first popped out my heart just about stopped- the center was indented so it held alot of dirt and all that was visible were the golden rims and tiny ribs on edge- thought I had a gold piece for a second! But instead a small screw on top to one of those sample size liquour bottles. Also dug alot of lead sinkers, saved a few older looking ones, probably should of saved them all- but tossed most of them up on rocks by shore -didn't want to weigh my pants down anymore in case I fell in . Oh well, between going back to this site and the other park, I should be busy for a while detecting. MY arm got a good work out today for sure.

I'm drawn to riverbanks, but it looks like you made the right choice.
That's a good looking Washington!
at one side and a large flat area of brush that backs up to an interstate. I found out from a neighbor that it
was a campground up to the 1950's. I walked the area the other day to explore. I am taking the detector tomorrow.
I am back at it after 20 years of no detecting. I have a cheap Tracker and
earphones but it works. Misplaced my digger shortly afterwards in the brush, looked up and a
large deer was 20 feet away, scared me just stood there looking at me.
