How is this O/C?

Do you guys feel this card should have been designated with an OC qualifier?

  • The left/right centering looks within the guidelines for a 9, but the top/bottom centering looks outside the guidelines. Have to take a ruler to it, but a quick glance looks like it.

t/b looks problematic - plus the back centering could be 99/1, too...
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • I haven't received it yet so I hope the back is not horrible. It's a pretty rare card and a very low pop so I decided to add it to the Munson collection.

if the back is fine , the card should be a straight 8 because of t/b centering. oc seems a little harsh but my money is on the back since rarely does a card get qualified if it would fit in the next lower grade category.

I had a 72 opc red sox team that was the same thing , front looked great but hte back was almost miscut and it got an oc qualifier.
  • In all my excitement of wanting this card I failed to ask for a back scan. I'm gonna say you are right on the back of the card being off. I should have asked. I'll post a back pic when the card arrives. I still say the front is good enough. I won't be displaying the back anyway so it's all good.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • Thanks for the picture stown. I just can't seem to figure this link and picture thing out. Here is a link of the back.

crack and resubmit , that card should not have a qualifier. it will probably come back a straight 8 but no way will it come back qualified again

    I hope this works.
  • I probably will crack and resubmit at some point just to appease myself and hope and pray they get a change of heart and give it a 9. Wishful thinking.
  • top to bottom is below guidelines...which is kind of unfortunate because a straight 8 would be better.

  • I've had similar cards and the only thing I can see is that the card is slightly OC left to right...but definitely top to bottom..
The combination of the two gets you the OC....if it were one or the other...it may slide.

    Should 8 without a problem.
  • I've decided to cross this card over to PRO. It should receive a Gem Mint 10. LOL

I think it would be an 8 eventually...unqualified
  • If the name on the slab doesn't matter...why not send it to SGC or GAI...they don't whack you for centering...

It is a good example of how stringent PSA can be...but that's better than being a PRO or CSA company.
  • I was definitely kidding on the the PRO grading. I made my mistakes in the early days with that trimmed junk. I like SGC equally as much as PSA and I thought about that crossover. I'm thinking a potential 8.5 from SGC and an 8 from PSA. Only 23 have been sent to PSA so it's a pretty low pop card in all grades but the OC just kills me personally. I bought the card due to its eye appeal to me. And from now on as long as I own this card the OC stands for OUTSTANDING COLOR, OUTSTANDING CLARITY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY OUTSTANDING CARD.

  • i think it is to oc top to bottom.

no way that card is oc, crack it out and resubmit. I will pay the $6 bucks for you to do it. the card is not that bad top to bottom. it looks worse because the bottom is under the holder and the top is not. move the card to sit in the middle so we can get a better idea on top to bottom centering. the card will not get a 9 but it will get a straight 8 on the 1st resubmit.
  • Keep your money my friend. Thanks for the kind gesture though. I'll keep it as is. I'll be catching a show at some point and have them grade it on site. I don't prefer to send stuff in anymore. I just do not see how it gets and o/c qualifier.

MINT 9: Mint. A PSA Mint 9 is a superb condition card that exhibits only one of the following minor flaws: a very slight wax stain on reverse, a minor printing imperfection or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 60/40 to 65/35 or better on the front and 90/10 on the reverse.

This card is a straight up 8.5 and real close 9. It's 70/30 on the front. The back is within guidelines. I think I'm going to let SGC grade it on site at a show.

My first and only submission to SGC resulted in a SGC 98 Roger Clemens Donruss rookie.

SGC 92 is my guess when it happens.

  • Card moved up in holder.
