Minnesota Extra Tree, over 30 varieties!!!

There are over 30 varieties of extra tree errors now. PCGS will only put Die numbers on 9 of them. 7 philadelphia & 2 Denver.

Philadelphia--- 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 12,
Denver--------- 1, & 3,

Not sure why they are skipping some numbers, however i was told at PCGS that they may add more numbers as time goes on. also i was told they would be labeled with Die numbers, Not DDR`S,. are they concerned that they may not be true Double Dies. just my thoughts, hope i am wrong.

Soon, the MN SHQ will have more varities than there are in the whole SHQ set at the end of the series image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

This coin has rapidly becoming a sub-specialty. Because of teh burgeoning volume of die varieties we're finding, it will be far more difficult for the more general collector to remain interested in this one, IMO, as opposed to, say, the more straight-forward Wisconsin High Leaf-Low Leaf.
  • Shweet!!! I didn't know that there were any Denver varieties! Most of the time is the folks over on the other coast who have all of the pocket change to look through.

I know that there are a lot of varieties showing up but I cannot find anything on them! Ken's site was last updated on 8/23 and I know that can't be the latest. Where are you finding these additional listings?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
  • I submitted some possible new varieties to ken. he told me he`s over 30. also sept. 12 issue of NN shows up to number 25. When you subscrib to NN you get it 1 week ahead of the newstands.

  • I don`t know, PCGS E-mailed me yesterday that they shippied! If they don`t show on the pop report by monday or tues, look on E-bay for PCGS die # 7`s. they will be mine!

How can these "trees" get such attribution while the 71-S DDO-007, Peg Leg Ike, as described in WExler/Flynn can't? image

  • Not Sure, just that it is a state quarter. the doubling looks like a person walking or ski-ing, very different?

It's always hard to understand what catches people's fancy and what doesn't. The timing
of these is good since everyone's still thinking about the WI extra leaf issues. They're also
in a very popular series. I expect a lot of the great varieties of the past half century will do
    better over time.

  • I received Coin World today, New Oregon DDR Discovered.
  • I should be getting my P mint set with DDR #4 back from Ken in a week or two. Then I have to decide what to do with it. It is still in the mint cello. In light of how many varieties there are now and if there is no interest (besides me), I may just leave it in the mint packaging along with the other 4 quarters. I'm supposed to get hard copy pics of it as well when it is returned. The pic of the quarter that is used for the announcement that PCGS grading them is my quarter that ken photographed. I like #4 better than #1 because there is more tree there.
