Perez-Steele Great Moments just back from PSA/DNA. Questions answered. Thanks!

I just got this invoice back from PSA/DNA.

Here are some scans:

1987 PEREZ-STEELE ROBIN ROBERTS GREAT MOMENTS POSTCARD

1988 PEREZ-STEELE BOBBY DOERR GREAT MOMENTS POSTCARD

1993 PEREZ-STEELE ROLLIE FINGERS GREAT MOMENTS POSTCARD

1993 PEREZ-STEELE GAYLORD PERRY GREAT MOMENTS POSTCARD

1993 PEREZ-STEELE FERGUSON JENKINS GREAT MOMENTS POSTCARD

I had vouchers for the SUPER EXPRESS level, so I figured I'd submit some signed Great Moments postcards. As you can see all five autos were deemed authentic by PSA/DNA.

What does the N0 on the invoice stand for? I couldn't get a straight answer, so I was hoping for a little help here.

I know that I saw some PSA/DNA Great Moments postcards with the new style blue flip. Well, it doesn't really matter, but why did mine get the red flip?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Robert

N0 just means that it's been authenticated and not slabbed as far as I can tell. As for why it got a red flip instead of the new blue ones, I have no idea. Very little of what PSA is doing with PSA/DNA makes sense to me lately.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • schr1st,

Did you mean authenticated AND slabbed because from the scans, they're obviously slabbed?
  • I believe the NO means that the auto wasn't graded. it was only authenticated.

I thought the red flip was still being used for lisenced issues like Perez-Steele. The blue flip is used for non lisenced issues, including some postcards that are in the grey area.

I haven't seen any Great Moments cards in blue flips yet.

I'm not sure why PSA went to the blue flip in the first place.

    BTW-Nice cards!

Cal guy is right, NO means no graded, but still authenticated and slabbed. I had a GM come up that way this week as well.
I have yet to see GM's with blue flips either, I think TKD is right.

AJetfan, are you working on this set?

No, the blue flip is also used for licensed material. here is an example (maybe PSA uses the blue when they grade the auto, like this mantle example, and not just authenticate the auto.) image

Maybe the difference is submitting to PSA vs. PSA/DNA?

I think all of mine have gone thru PSA/DNA- I thought it was the only way to get an auto authenticated?
This is the first one I've seen with a grade, and the first blue one. Perhaps that is the difference.
I hope the one that is coming back now is red- it would bite to have 1 blue one in a stack.

  • I think maybe I can at least clarify the red flip/ blue flip thing.

Today; as I understand it; red flip is authenticated autograph and graded card (or no grade if you requested "authentic card").

Blue flip is authenticated card and graded autograph. PSA/DNA Blue means they are actually grading the quality of the autograph.

Straight from Joe Orlando in a conversation just a week or so ago.

  • Hopefully this will help as it can be a little tricky in the beginning.

If you send in a licensed item that has been autographed the item should receive the Red Flip. The item will go through PSA/DNA for autograph authentication and then on to the card graders to have the card authenticated and graded. On licensed product you have the choice of With Grade or Authentic Only. If you choose With Grade the card will be graded 1-10. If you choose the Authentic Only option the card will be checked for authentication as well but the numerical grade will not be given and label will say Authentic
N0 (N zero) means authentic only.

If you send in autographed non-licensed product such as a cut or index card you should receive the Blue Flip. This item is only looked at by PSA/DNA since the item is not graded.

Here is where it gets a little tricky.

If you send in an autographed licensed product and choose to have the autograph graded, you will receive the Blue Flip. By choosing to have the autograph graded, the item is only seen by the PSA/DNA crew and is not looked at by our card graders. We are making no comments as to the authenticity or condition of the card. We are only commenting on the autograph itself.

I hope this helps clear this up. If you have any additional questions please contact me or customer service.

  • Hello all,

Thanks to everyone (and especially) carolj for the help with my questions!

Since I'm not going to make a run at this set, I decided to list them on ebay. Please follow the link below if interested and thanks again.
