1987 Topps frontless

I picked up a Clemens and Mattingly - backs exactly right but the front is blank white. Anybody know anything about these?

What year? I had several uncut sheets of those from 1987. Someone I know bought them directly from Topps. I still have some smaller remnits from cutting them down into singles. I think I pad $2.00 per sheet. I am not sure about any other years though.

How do you know that the backs aren't switched? Hmmmm? That might increase the value. image

Blank white? Why arent they the color of the cardboard stock? Unless they are OPC???

They are Topps. I'm no printing expert, but I would think the front needs to have a different base than the back in order to support the semi gloss finish.

Edited to add scan; the front "feels" smoother (and, no, I didn't give it the smell test image ):

  • i've got a lot of blank backs from 86-89 i think they were pretty comn
  • I agree with previous statement. I couldnt sell my lot of 15 blank front 87 Topps so I gave 'em away. The Clemens and Mattingly would be better than my commons and probally $5 or less in value. Blank Backed are more desired than blank front. I also agree with 1986-89 being pretty common from Topps. Switched back also.
Story on them?? I saw a 86 blank on top of a rack pack so I know some were in packout.

That card just needs some marketing. Unique. Draw your own Clemens! Includes markers!

...and I think that's around what I paid for them. Thanks for the input, guys.
