Your favorite/wish you had, Mickey Mantle card

Hi All

Tell me, which one (maybe 2 or so) of Mickeys many cards would you love to have in your collection.

Now the breaker,,, his 1951 Topps and Bowman cards are exempt. (those 2 are on every list)

Well,, think man,, think ???

Thanks, Lee

You're forgetting that it is the 52 Topps card that should be exempt.....

Well, excluding the obvious two, I would surely enjoy a glossy, fresh-from-the-pack and perfect '53 topps Mantle! Barring that, a '53 Color Bowman would do nicely, too.

I doubt the '52 Bowman Mantle will get much love - but heck, that'd be cool too.

Of course, I already have the '51 Bowman and "52 Topps image

Actually, the '52 Bowman has always been my favorite card of Mickey, and I used to have one. I stupidly sold it back in 1991 and just haven't been able to pick up another nice one yet. I picked up the big-2 three years ago after getting an inheritance and deciding to splurge a bit.

    1962 Mantle, PSA 10.
  • Besides the '52 Mantle, I"ll take a '57 PSA 9 (perfectly centered). That's a card I'd never sell.

    Lee-
The Stahl Meyers are really nice, but I don't collect them. The '51, '52 Bowman and '54 Dan Dee will finish those sets.
Rarity wise I"d go with the '61 Dice, but it's a fugly set!

1957 or maybe 1959 in PSA 8 or 9. Hard to beat that swing follow through image or that great pic of him smiling, just for sheer visual appeal.
  • I've always had a lot of love for his '56 Topps card, it's the card kids were pullin' out of packs when The Mick was having his best season, and it's the first Topps card of him in 3 years, and ya gotta love the image: a great smile on him, the amazing catch he's making in the action shot, the autograph, it all adds up to a fantastic card!

I would love a mint copy of his 1956 Topps card!!
  • 1960 Topps PSA MINT 9.

I like the 56 as well. The first Mantle I ever got my dad bought me when I was about 9-10. It was the 1960 Topps All-star with Ken Boyer and I have always loved that card. It shows the Mick in his prime with the bat on his shoulder and that All American Hero look. The card my dad bought me is probably EX and I think he paid $25 in 1995 right before Mantle died.

I dream about a 1952 and my girlfriend and I have a deal that if I get her the engagment ring she dreams of, she will get me a 1952 Mantle (PSA slabbed of course).

I saw one at the National one year and passed on it at $2K (silly me). You should do a wax pack bust on CU of one of your Plaks packs. How fun would that be? image

I've seen autographed copies of the "Willie, Mickey and the Duke" Perez Steele card. That is another one I'd like to have.

I don't have any Mantles in my collection, being primarily a 70s collector. However I yearn for the 1969 White Letters variant... image
  • I'll take a 57 topps Mantle and a 63 topps Mantle. just like those years. image

I had them both new when you could buy a pack of cards for a nickel and get gum too. Those were the days.

It doesn't exist but I would love to have a Mantle in my 71 set, honoring his career. One of the many cards Topps should have made and didn't.

Here's what I'm thinking but I don't have the talent to add his name. Not my picture, the picture is for sale at art.com

Marc---that is a neat item to have. I have a couple of Topps "salesman samples", one from 1952, but unfortunately no big name players on any of them.
