Star Basketball Gai only or what????

There hasn't been a star basketball topic in a while. it seems most even real seem to be worth 10% of beckett (sad) and GAI is the only was to buy. I spoke with Taft in an email. buying off Taft and beckett.com seem to be reliable. that being said excluding jordan and the uncuts ect repoed...what do you think of buying rookies ungraded..or graded by csa? and does anyone want to sell legitimate ones? i've love to have the main 8 rookies excluding jordan in desent grades 7 7.5 or 8

  • I bought all of my Star Basketball back in the early 90's at the height of their worth. They're all ungraded and would grade 7-8. I have a Thomas XRC, Stockton XRC, Barkley XRC, Ewing XRC, Drexler XRC, Olajuwon XRC. Email me if you would like scans (jtn1@hotmail.com). Thanks. John
  • You'll want to buy either SCD (the original and not the new blue SCD) or GAI graded Star cards. I would stay away from raw and even bags unless you are familar with the cards.

Demand is pretty soft on team bags, raw, and lower grade SCD/GAI. But high grade SCD and GAIs of the major rookies will sell for top dollar (even higher than 1990-1992 book values). And that's all because there are so few out there and bidding wars take place for people wanting to fill holes in their collection.

Take a look at this recent auction for an example: Jordan SCD 8.5
