Question For Football Autograph Collectors

I have this ball of the 1989 Bears Football Team I want to put on Ebay. The ball was given to me by Robin Earl (Played with the Bears in the 70's early 80's) at a super bowl party hosted by my buddies dad in 1990. It has 31 Autographs on it with two HOF's, Ditka and Singletary.

Here is my question. The ball was signed in Black Pen. Over the years it has been sitting in a box but all the autos have lightened and yellowed.

Is this common for black pen autos on a white three panneled ball???

Here are some pictures of the ball.

What do you think it is worth?

Thanks,

Glen

It is not uncommon for black pen to fade off white panel footballs. Black sharpie (which I assume it was signed with) sinks into the panel leaving you with a faded signature. Sure, white panels look nice for a bit, but then they do that over time. The person who got it signed would have been better off with a regular leather football and a paint pen. I'm afraid those signatures are just going to keep fading, and even faster if in light.

As far as value, my guess would be that it won't bring big bucks. The fading signatures hurt the value alot. The fact that it was given to you by a former player, I would keep it and enjoy it while there is still some life left in the sigs.
    Looking for Carl Willey items.

let me know what you want for it or link me to the auction as i may be interested.
  • First off, thanks all. The ball is actually signed in Black Pen, not sharpie. I put the ball on ebay starting tonight with a starting bid of $299 including the case since the case is 17 years old as well and shows it's wear. (I actually put it on this morning with a start time of 8:00 PM pacific.) I did this because I have no idea about autographs. I focus on PSA vintage and White Sox Game used items.

Allen PM me if you think we can work something out.

Is $299 a fair price with the case? Or am I reaching? As I said, football is not my area.

    Thanks all,

    Glen
