question regarding PSA-graded ticket stubs

Hey guys,

Almost all ticket stubs which I see graded by PSA do not have a grade, and are simply graded "Authentic". However, in the SMR, they list prices for ticket stubs depending on the grade. Does anyone know any further as to why they would break out prices per grade on the stubs, yet they don't assign specific grades on the slabs? I don't know a ton about graded tickets, but have been looking at making a couple of purchases on older World Series stubs, so any info would be appreciated.

The do now assign grades to ticket stubs. You can however request authentication only. So far I have only submitted a few stubs and it's brutally difficult to get a high grade.

People take the short cut by not asking for a grade. Why lose money in potential sales by advertising an actual PSA 1 or 2 when authentic will usually garner the same price as a PSA 5-6?

Right on baseballfanatic. Tickets are not as well taken care of as cards and because of that, many have creases, rounded corners, and even writing on them. Most people don't take a ticket out of the envelope and immediately put it into a toploader like they do cards. I have received authentic graded tickets that are much worse than I expected. Authentic tickets are also recognized on the set registry and given a value of three. Another point, there isn't a whole lot of graded tickets out there, so I don't think a great historical demand has been placed on higher graded tickets as much as in the card world.

Grading of tickets seems to be a big impact on Super Bowl tickets, which for some reason seem to be preserved much better. I am amazed at the number of full tickets that are around for the Super Bowl. It seems like the even least likely to be missed. Maybe early collectors made a deal with the Super Bowl ticket takers not to tear the tickets.
