Greyside pricing question

I just love coins with huge spreads between grades... really... image

Newfoundland 25 Cents, 1919 C.

Krause: XF40 = $25, MS60 = $350

Charlton: AU50 = C$150, MS60 = C$600

Trends: AU50 = $C175, MS60 = C$600

How would you value an attractively-toned NGC AU58?

Interesting. Doing a search on Teletrade shows 7 1917C and 0 1919C having been auctioned there in the last 10 years.
  • When pricing my Canadian or Maritime pieces, I only use current Trends.

As you know, Trends values are based on being ICCS holdered. PCGS certified Cdn. coins are a bit less $$$ than Trends and from what I've been told NGC is somewhat tough to sell to Canadian buyers and are usually sold at even less.

IMHO, if you were considering selling the coin, either break it out and send to ICCS/PCGS or leave it and have it cross graded. Probably the only way to realize near Trends especially if an online sale.

I have a '47 Cdn 50 cents ML Left, certified by Anacs MS-63 no comments. Trends is $425.00 Cdn. On Ebay with excellent pics, the coin didn't hit even 50% of Trends (was reserved, didn't sell).

I agree with Anacs grade and it's an attractive, brilliant white coin. but in that holder, no takers! So, I'll either keep it or have it cross graded.

    Good Luck!
