Is someone trying to bend me over a barrel?

I've been in LA for the past 5 days and got an email from confirm@paypal.com asking me to confirm my identity because someone attempted to log into my account from a different IP address than I normally do. At the bottom of the email there were three different links that stood out and designated with different location numbers. The email encouraged me to try one of the links to "confirm" my identity and if it didn't work use one of the others.

Needless to say, I never access my Paypal account unless I'm at home with the same computer I always do. I just got back tonight and tried to log into my PP account.

No problem. Everything seemed the way it always has been. No money missing, no mention of having my account suspended or frozen and nothing about confirming my identity.

I think it's safe to say that the email I received was an attempt to gain my user info. Is there any way to determine who sent the email? Is there any way to determine which future PP correspondence are authentic and which are bogus?

I'm not very happy right now. image

Here's a copy of what I received:

  • there are other ways to confirm who the email is from but I know paypal emails address you by name and not 'paypal member' or some other generic phrase. between ebay and paypal I get these at least weekly.
  • Sounds like another scam. Just forward it to spoof@paypal.com and they will get back to you right away if its legit or not. Should be worth the peace of mind for you...........

Forward the email to spoof@paypal.com and they will tell if it's legit or not.

I've had the same email, which ended up being bs. However, better safe than sorry.

    Good luck!

We get those same emails often. Just scammers looking for some free money.

Okay I answered your post, now send me those Emmittsimage

  • I get those all the time. It IS very frustrating. I usually forward them to paypal as spoof like the other guys say. If you ever wonder what is up, ALWAYS log into your account using the actual Paypal website and that will tell you if there is anything going on with your account. Never respond to or use a link in those bogus emails.

  • Dear PayPal Member,

That tells you everything you need to know about the letter. Paypal and Ebay will ALWAYS address you by your name. If you hover your cursor over one of the lins I bet it will say something totally different from Paypal.

I get those from Ebay or Paypal about 2-5 times a day. From what I've read these phishing emails now constitue the bulk of spam.

    Welcome to the Internet.

    Isn't it grand?

As long as we are on bending...

When I was in high school, I dated a girl named Barbie Bender.

And of course people would say: "hey Barber Bender-over!"

Aw hells no. I think I've got a little over $7 in there right now. I always dump my account after I receive a payment. That's why I wasn't freaking out because I knew the worst case scenario was that I'd just open a new account. From what I hear it's not worth battling over a suspended account unless you actually have money in there and even then ...

Matt, I'll trade you an Emmitt for a Tatupu. image
