Upcoming Topps Heritage - Years to Come...

The 2007 set will be modeled after the 1958 cards, which were mostly face shots with a colored background and the player's name across the top of the card. Doesn't look to be too exciting of a set.

However, the 2008 and 2009 sets should be amazing (if Topps still continues to make these).

The 2008 set will be modeled after the '59 cards, which have a circular photo of the player in the middle, the player's name in lower case text slanted across the top of the card, the team logo in the bottom left corner, and the player name, pos, and team in the bottom right.

The 2009 set will be modeled after the '60 cards, which were also very nice. Two player photos on the face of each card. All cards done in the landscape/horizontal format. Player names on the bottom with two different colors, varying on every other letter, and the team logo on the bottom corner.

Then 2010 will be a dud (imo), based on the '61 cards, which were really bland.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I agree that the '58 design was not one of Topps' most attractive, but the set has some interesting highlights that I'm looking forward to in next year's Heritage. For example, 1958 was the first year that a number of combo/multi-player cards were produced (the '57 set had two that this year's Heritage short-printed: Yankee Power Hitters #400 became Astros' Aces and #407 Dodger Sluggers became White Sox Power Hitters). The following '58 Topps combos should be compelling for next year's Heritage: #321 Sluggers Supreme Klu and T. Williams, #351 Braves' Fence Busters with Aaron & Mathews, #436 Rival Fence Busters Snider & Mays and especially #418 World Series Batting Foes Mantle & Aaron. In addition, 1958 was the first year of the Sport All Star high # subset that included Musial's first Topps card, Ted Williams, Mantle, Aaron & Mays.

I am looking forward to Heritage's riffs on the '59 and '60 sets as well, two beautiful Topps' offerings.

58 and 59 set should be great for the increased number of MPC cards....

as you go through the 60's you start to get leader cards, world series cards....ALL THIS STUFF WILL MAKE US BUY THEM...REGARDLESS OF THE DESIGN image

I'm looking forward to the 2037 Topps Heritage, looking just like the 1988 Topps! Oh yeah! image

On a more serious note, I wonder what the will do with the Bowman Heritage. According to my calculations, in 2010, they will run out of designs because Bowman stopped making cards in 1955 (2003 Bowman Heritage was made after the 1956 Bowman design which they never produced).

Will they go with the 1989 design? Surely not!

I'd look forward to the 59 design as well as the 63 and 67. If they get to 71, 72, and 75 those would be primo!

I think Heritage will continue to be popular for a long time. The 2010/1961 set won't be a dud. Bland design on the basic cards, yes, but it's one of the most popular sets of the era, and the modern version should engage people just as much as any other edition. Personally, I don't like the 1958 and 1966 designs, but other than that it's all good. The 1959 set is the one I'm waiting for, though. I'm thinking seriously about getting into that as my next PSA set, so a modern counterpart will be a nice complement.
