Historical Cut Autos - Any investment reality ?

Hi All

We all have seen these "Historical" cut auto cards ( Example)
they seem very attractive and seemingly very investment wise ?

Do any collectors or dealers have any experience or comments on these cards ?

I would really like to hear from you !

I saw a Washington/Jefferson Cut dual auto that was up for $45,000 BIN auction !!

  • Nice cards, but definately for the hobby's elite. 1/1 may work for baseball cards, but you cant add an extra 100-500% to the price of a historical autograph just because they only included one in the set. Great cards to pull, great cards to sell, great cards to own, but the prices people ask for most of them make them sit in an Ebay store for years with cobwebs on them...
  • I, personally, can think of a million other things I'd rather have other than a cut auto card. If you are going to empty that much coin out on an autographed piece, why not make it something of historical value, like a cheque or even just an autographed ball or postcard? Get a picture and frame it next to the piece for a nice display item.

Needless to say, these cut cards do nothing for me. It seems like a fad that is dying down that hit its apex when the UD Cut Signatures brand first came out.

I know nothing about this area - but I do have a thought - aren't these prices a bit out there?

I would guess that the cuts can be found for less than that from a auto document seller?

Maybe if it was of a relative, which that one is! image

Take a look at what ordinary cut sigs of these subjects go for, which is usually 5-25% what they sell for when turned into cards. While there is little info on these cards being tracked on the secondary market (people who pay thousands for these cards when they come out tend to hold onto them), I think it's safe to say the only people making money on their sale are the people who pull them originally.
