My attic find

My wife and I are remodeling our 90 year old farm house. I was tearing the plaster off of a bedroom ceiling, and this beauty fell from the heavens. I have no idea how it got there. Unfortunately it was all alone. Believe me I looked. Someone must have put it there when they were updating the home in the 50s.

    If wall could talk...

Pretty cool Jim - I remember a story on the Incurable Collector a few years back where a guy stripped the walls and found it insulated with rare movie posters!

You've just net more than I have ever found.
    Congratulations!

I have a great story to share along these lines....

Growing up my family was very close with my next door neighbors. The husband was a school teacher and really nice old guy, I spent alot of time there as a child. One day when I was around 9 or 10 he invites me in for one reason or another, we get to talking, and he brings me over to his bookshelves. He directs me to one old book on the shelf, asks me to take it out, and gently open and remove an old envelope held within.

Before opening the envelope contained in the book he tells me how his father was gutting a building in NYC back in the late 40's, early 50's and came across this in the walls while ripping them out.....

So I gently open the envelope, he asks again to be very, very carefull, and I procede to open a full page, hand written letter requesting boots, clothes, powder and various other supplies. The letter was written and addressed from Valley Forge by George Washington. I was in absolute awe. The letter, although slightly yellowed, appeared in perfect condition.

He said he had it authenticated, I forget by whom, but they were also in awe of the letter. Over the years I have asked to see it a few more times, and have also tried to convince him to have it insured and kept in a far safer place than where it is, but as far as I know it still sits on that same bookshelf. To know that what could be one of the most complete and perfect examples of Washingtons' writing before he was even president is just sitting there on a bookshelf is something I never seem to be able to get over. Anyhow, just thought I would share.

I just hope if he ever decides to sell the George Washington letter Upper Deck won't buy it. That's all we need- a George Washington You-Crash-the-War-cut-signature insert.

I kinda started this myself. I sold my house just three months ago. The house was built in 1926. All of the wood work is original but painted over 15 times. I hate that, so my first project was redo the banister and railings going up stairs. I took of the top and finished it but before I glue and nailed it back on I placed a 1986 Topps Rookie of Reggie White, three Brett Favre cards from 1992 and a Fleer Ultra Rookie Favre. All of these are in Card Saver I's tacked to the inside of the banister. I attached me email address to see if anyone discovers them.

I figured a Reggie and Favre rookie in 50's should command solid find for the new owner.

Some may ask the condition of each card. The Reggie would be a 7 and the Favre has to be a 9 for sure. Solid card. I had over 50 at the time so I took one of the best. The other Favre's I would not remember which ones they were.

When i stopped doing construction work back in 91', one of the last jobs we did was a remodel of a church that was almost a 100 years old in Glendora, CA. As we were tearing away the old plaster--low and behold there was a stack of T206 cards( no namers of course). I would say something like 40 to 50 of them. But due to the hot climate and water damage none would have graded better than a 1. As a collecter it was an exciting find anyways. We gave the cards to the church and i believe they were auctioned on ebay or some format thereof.

I hope to gave some luck in a few weeks when I start to take down some walls in a property we just bought. The house was built in the early 1950's but unfortunately my in-laws say there is nothing there as my father in law was one of the builders. Wishfull thinking though.
