2 more stadiums down, that makes 7 this year !

Just got in late last night from a mini vacation/road trip down in Baltimore, Washington, then Virginia. I caught a game at Camden yards over the weekend and another at RFK on wed.

Camden is fantastic. I love everything about the stadium and the surrounding harbor area. Washington...well, cant say the same. Ive been there many times, but it was the first time there for a baseball game.....the area is just too much of a mess to enjoy on the whole.

So that makes 7 stadiums so far this year...Yankee, Shea, PNC park in Pitt., Great American ballpark in Cincy, Citizens bank in Philly, Camden Yards, and RFK.

Im going to try to get to Fenway before the end of the year to make it 8 total for the season, but even if I dont its been fun hitting some of the newer parks.

  • It'll be nicer once the Nats park is built; I still loathe the traffic I face on a daily basis.

I dont know how you deal with that traffic every day. I thought it was bad here in NY. The roads in D.C. and surrounding area are an absolute mess. Too bad the politicians are driven everywhere, if they had to deal with that for one day you can be damn sure they would get on the ball and fix them up.

  • It's a friggin battle on the roadways. Luckily for me, whenever I leave for work it's in our company truck. image

I live just north of Oxon hill, and the DC area is said to have one of the worst rush hours in the nation. Doesn't suprise me, as routinely it's taken me between 1-2 hours to travel about 19 miles on the beltway.

Bri, if you haven't been to Fenway, I strongly suggest you do. The only time I've been there was for Games 1 & 2 of the '04 World Series. I've been to Yankee Stadium and seen first hand it's history but Fenway is in a completely different league (no offense image ).

Paint chips falling off the seats made for midgets, the cramped concourses, no escalators, the green monster, Landsdowne Street... From a baseball fan, you could just feel the history and excitement. Keep in mind, this was just like 72 hours after we lost game 7 to STL in the NLCS. Rather than being bummed, I totally became numb to the loss and enjoyed taking in the sights and sounds of the almost 100 year old ball park.

It would be an awesome way to cap off a most excellent ballpark tour image

Bri, that's a great trip there! I like Camden Yards myself, never been to RFK. Of the "newer" parks I've been to, Camden Yards and the new park in Philly really were a lot of fun. I hope you make it up to Fenway - it really is a unique place. It's old and full of history, and still has all of it's original charm. I'm not sure when they have them, but I recommend one of the tours they run during off days (maybe they run them the day of a night game, but I'm not sure). The guides will tell you tons of great baseball stories about things that happened over the years in the park, and you don't have to be a Sox fan to appreciate the history of it all.

This thread dissapoints me, in '92 I lived in Chicago from November until April 1st, and I did not get to take in a game in either stadium, I also saw Busch stadium in St.Louis but wintertime and again no game. Good for you Bri, I always am going to regret not seeing different parks.

    CT,

I really hope I can make it to Fenway. I have only been to Boston once before....2 years ago. Not a good experience either, we were pulled over twice while driving, and to this day I still take the blame for the Yankees losing and the Sox winning the W.S. It was like entering unholy ground for a Yankee fan, and somehow my being there contributed to the curse ending image

On a serious note, we didnt make it to Fenway the first time up there but it is one of the few places I have been dying to see in person. Id love to find out more about the tour, it sounds like fun. Yankee stadium gives a similar tour where you can go onto the field, dugout, locker room, etc.

Are there tix available for any games or would I have to scalp or buy from a broker ?

    Perk,

Its a shame you didnt get to see more parks while you were out that way. I regret not getting to see some of the old stadiums before they were torn down.

Bri, the Fenway tour sounds exactly the same. My company sent me on one last year as a "bonus", and I had a great time. I was able to see every part of the park, go on the field, in the press box, and sit in the dugouts. They even were supposed to let us on the field to catch some fly balls and hit a little bit, but it rained so much that day that they didn't want anyone actually playing on the field.

I read an article yesterday about tickets, and the fact that the Fenway sellout streak might be in jeopardy because of the current team situation. So, this is probably a good time for you to go. Maybe you'll bring us some luck again! Check around, there are probably people willing to sell you good seats cheap. It's a buyers market at the moment.

Use Boston's craigslist. Since there's some naughty things on there, I'm not going to take a chance and link it image

Anyways... Go to "for sale" and then "tickets"

A buddy of mine in Boston uses craig's list all of the time. Every once in a while, you can score at or just above face. For example, someone is offering "4 Red Sox-White Sox LF Grandstand Tix 9/5 Tuesday UNDER FACE VALUE - $20"

Again, I strongly encourage you to visit Fenway. It really is a ballpark every baseball fan should experience image
