David Wells traded to the Padres -- Red Sox "officially" raise the white flag!

I have always liked Wells, even when he was with the Yankees. It took a lot of guts for him to come back from injury early in the season, then get hit in the leg, and come back again. He could easily have lingered on the DL and collected his check, but he is a true competitor, as he has always been.

I wish him well, and hope he can put the Padres over the top into the playoffs! It would be a fitting end to a great, and somewhat underrated career.

    Kind of ironic that Wells is back in San Diego..which I am sure he is good with. I think he may be from that area? Good for Wells..I hope he has some chance with some success this year...especially if it is his final year.

    He's more than good with it - in fact, he wanted to go there at the beginning of the season, but the Sox couldn't work out a trade with San Diego. He just built a new house out there, and yes, it's his last season. I'm glad they finally accomodated him, he showed a lot of toughness coming back this season at all, and I wish him well out there.

    Again I thought he was washed up but good luck to him. Good move by the Sox, we got ZERO chance of making the wild card.

    Yeah - Sox throw in the towel. Wells is cool, but an enigma. How can a fat guy in his 40's with Babe Ruth tatoo'd on his carcass keep producing? I wish him well. He's like a George Foreman. Maybe he can keep it up for another year or two.
    Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
