Nearly 4 Months to get a card added to a set

Well I finally had one of my Favre cards added to the set. Only requested it on 5/4.

  • I have approximately 40 Wade Boggs cards waiting to be added to the Master Set... It would be really nice if they picked up the pace a little.

  • i've been waiting 5 months dont feel bad
  • So basically it takes less time to put up a 792-card set than it does to add a card to a Player Registry? ...
  • Maybe now that they don't have to moderate the Open Forum, they'll have more time to do other things???

I don't think they anticipated what a pain in the ass it would be to maintain and update player sets when they first started them. As I've said before, PSA (IMO) started with the idea that they would grade high dollar vintage cards and modern RC's, and the set registry was a way of getting people interested in high grade vintage commons. I doubt they had any idea how big it would become, and I REALLY doubt they understood how popular player collecting would be. Because they never really saw themselves as entering the business with the intention of catering to player collectors they've never gotten their act together and made an effort to accomodate them.

I emailed them a while ago and said it would save everyone a lot of time and grief if they would just list on the website those sets that they won't grade. This saves them the hassle of sending out vouchers, etc., and saves their customers the aggravation of sending stuff in and getting it returned. Just announce that you don't grade Ralston Purinas, Broders, Scott Cunningham, and so on. But of course they won't do it-- despite the fact that it makes total sense to do so-- because they just don't think it's important.

Very, very good point.... I think there are only a couple of people who research whether a card belongs in a basic or master player set. Given the number of player sets, time periods in which they relate to (late 1800's/early 1900's to 2006...), sports which are covered and proliferation of sets over the past 15 years, I can see how it is incredibly time consuming (not to mention tedious) to research whether a card can be added to a particular player set. Not to mention the fact that many obscure cards are not even listed on card reference books/magazines. I purchased the Dan Marino card list from sportslists which compiles the player cards from many sources. I can tell you that I've added at least 20 cards to that list (over 3500 cards), which are true parallels that weren't previously recognized.
