    Edit:

Doh!! I fell asleep during the match and the postgame parts I saw when I woke up made it seem like he lost! image

Well, now I'm happy he won -- looking forward to at least one more Agassi match!!
  • Agassi won.

Baghdatis was suffering from leg cramps in the fifth set so bad he could barely stand, let alone walk.

Great match, Agassi definitely was buoyed by the crowd - much the same way Connors was in his final appearance there.

There was a lengthy delay as the crowd was doing the wave to get Agassi back into the match...definitely good fun to see the once 'bad boy' of tennis embraced. Though it's definitely the ending of an era in American men's tennis.

He is having a longer career than I would have imagined. I am a big Stefan Edberg fan and he retired gracefully at the age of 30 and got elected to the Hall of Fame fairly recently for all his accomplishments.

Could Agassi's career be better than Edberg's?

No matter. Agassi will always be known in American tennis. He made a name for himself all right. He is still young in a larger context, so now he can enjoy his family life a lot. I am sure Steffi would really like that right now too. She has always been a supportive wife and now they get to spend more time together with the kids. Agassi is still high profile and if he wanted to, he can still bring a positive impact to the USA or the world in other mediums besides tennis.

Let us watch his last run in the US Open and enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

As for Agassi, good endurance training and proper hydration. Have you notice he drank 3 different kinds of fluids. He's balancing the electrolytes in his body. Potassium is one of the important electrolytes in the body (helps prevent muscle cramps).

Going by performances in majors, Agassi easily eclipses Edberg. An eight time major champion with seven runners up (five to Sampras and Federer) vs. a six time champion with only five runners up. In head-to-head Agassi held a 6-3 advantage and beat him in three of four tourney finals as well as their only match up in a grand slam. Edberg did have a brilliant stretch as the worlds number one that Agassi can't really match, but it was moments before Sampras turned dominant.

Doesn't matter. He and no one else is beating Roger Federer anyway - even if Federer gets leg cramps.
