It's sad that, when someone comes clean, that's interpreted as a green light to pile on, yet those who don't come clean are treated with kid gloves.

I totally disagree with you. I think a more accurate statement would be that MOC is an ebarrasment to the collecting community.

We're not saying he did no wrong. He's copped to it. People have had their say. Why keep pounding him? What happened to the blue IHC thing? One day and gone. Greg Margulies bragged about it, and he got infinitely less than this.

In my experience, I have found just the opposite true. I have never met a drunk driver that didn’t insist he was sober, the ones that scream the loudest to crucify someone else are usually the ones that have something to hide, or they are like you 13PacesEastand have such a low self esteem of themselves that the only way they can feel good is to keep kicking someone else when they are down.

I don't think it's meaningless at all- I think you want it to be meaningless, dizzyfox, because it deals directly with toned coins- a segment of the hobby that you are strongly invested in. It's just a piece of the puzzle, and it's indicating that there are a lot of fraud problems in this hobby- and they're likely to keep getting worse as technology improves....

I could not disagree more. I don't need to relive this everyday, but the event is not insignificant, and it is not going away, and I do expect PCGS to remove its head from the sand and at some point say something, which may help clarify where this event stands "in the grand scheme of things."

Although I have previously stated that i think this whole subject is a tempest in a teapot, your thoughtless post is whongheaded and no more than I've come to expect from you. Unlike the posts from the others in this thread, you are a troll that has never posted anything that has added value to my experience here. Bugger off.
  • I never posted on this because in-holder toning has been known a long time. Frankly I'm surprised everyone didn't know after a series of experiments by K6AZ and others posted here about 3 years ago. Whether MOC should be a PCGS Registry particpant is another thing.

    I agree.

It's more disturbing that many have completely lost their perspective on this. He wasn't eating
babies or littering. Those who bought the coins have a real problem and a right to very negative
attitudes but even here he has offered to buy back the coins.

This "crime", while not minor to those on a coin collecting forum, is certainly not of the magnitude
that I can wish him ill. He's trying to make amends so let's give him a chance at least. Even if he
hadn't been a first rate collector and poster, he deserves a chance.

If someone with the intelligence of MOC can doctor a slabbed coin, we haven't heard the end of this business, which serves as a long term threat to you, me, and the company with a guaranty on the pre-doctored coins.

For Christ sakes man, this toning chit has been going on forever. Why would PCGS now suddenly decide to go after a small timer when there are very large fish out there???

Toning "chit" has indeed been going on forever, but the issue here is toning while the coin remains in a PCGS slab. A coin that met with the PCGS stamp of approval is now a different coin, but in the slab there is the false appearance the PCGS has approved the coin and the toning. This is a misrepresentation and a fraud. PCGS should want to clean that up for your sake and for mine. I happen to have first generation holdered coins. Maybe PCGS will offer to waive submission fees for the submission of first generation holdered coins. I could see this going in a lot of directions. If you are so disinterested in the subject, for "Christ sakes" focus your attention on other threads or other hobbies.

I haven't been watching this closely. Are we talking about a new ID just to avoid the controversy, or did the guy somehow get bammed?

You are indeed in another world. These type slabs have been tampered with since day one. And probably even other generation slabs. PCGS is quiet for a reason. The reason is for lack of anything to do about it.
