Pocket/Handheld Microscopes. Do You Use One???

Hi.

I've always used a fairly high quality magnifying glass for checking out my coins close up. But now that I'm getting older, my eyesight is getting worse (I've had to wear glasses since I was 14, 27 years) and the glass just isn't cutting it anymore.

So I've been checking out Pocket/Handheld Microscopes on Ebay. Most are 30x. There are some that are 60x by 100x. And they are lighted and have adjustable focus and zoom as well. Check out the pics below.

So I was wondering if anybody uses/has used one of these for viewing their coins (stamps, trading cards, etc.). And if so, your thoughts about it compared to a magnifying glass. Maybe someone can recommend a good model.

Also, anybody who has an opinion on this, I sure would like to hear it.

These illustrate quite nicely how you get what you pay for. I think they're crap, but you'll have to try for yourself. They're about $20 at Radio Shack.

I bought one at a garage sale and they dont work too good. Its hard to find the focal point. I have had the same problem. I use a 10X glass and also use a 17X glass if I think I have a variety! It is a littlew harder to use then the 10X but much easier than the 30X pocket microscope from Radio shack.
