If 1995 Was the 10th Anniversary, Shouldn't 2005 be the 20th?

I think this can also be called a mint error.... Kind of like when did the new millenium start.

Yes and no. Although there are 21 coins from 86-06, the first "birthday" is kind of like year zero and doesn't count - just like people birthdays.

The point is if they counted 1995 as 10th.... 2005 should be 20th.....NOT 2006

Then why was the 1995 the 10th? At least they could be consistent!

Because, they screwed up that year. Why worry about this one? Just go cry and complain about the 1995 one that should have been 1996 image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Well ya know...maybe it is why the 1996 UNCS were the lowest mintage....glad I bought my roll years ago.
  • And the new millenium did not start in 2000 like it was celebrated, but 2001.

My mistake I meant to say that the 1995 would be in year nine depending on how you look at it. 1986 is year 0.

1995 was the 10th year of the SAE. But the 10th *anniversary* wasn't until 1996, and the 20th *anniversary* is in 2006.
  • See if you can get your Coin designated as a Mint Date Error !!!! LOL
  • I asked the same thing in rec.collecting.coins. There are 20th anniversary coins dated 2005. I asked if the 20th anniversary coins issued this year are really going to be dated 2005. I guess we'll see. The pictures are not clear enough to tell on the US Mint site.

1986 was the first year for the issue, 1987 was the first anniversary for the series.
1995 was the tenth issue but only the ninth anniversary of the series. this is where the mistake was made.
2006 is indeed the twenty-first issue, but it's correctly called the twentieth anniversary of the series.

  • Ok look at it this way...you were born in 1974....in 1994 you had your 20th birthday...yet it is your 21 year...you do not count the first year!!!!!!
  • There is not an anniversary until a year has gone by. The first year doesn't count as an anniversary until it has gone by. You don't have your first anniversary until after a year has gone by. i.e. Married in 1986, 20th anniversary in 2006. 21st year of the marriage, 2006.
