O.K. tonelovers-destined for 7070 or plastic tomb?

I'm confident that this one wasn't cooked, but what's the consensus on how to keep it?

I have a Dansco type set that I am doing with all toned coins (all NT I hope). That is where I would put it.

its odd, or is it not, that there is virtually no toning around the stars on the right side while
the color is intense just outside that tiny area of the stars and date too.
maybe the experts can chime in on that part to educate me and perhaps others.

    ...i dont know..
    jus wonderin`

That's a tough pic to take, and it looks like you finally captured alot of the toning by propping up the Morgan on the Lincoln cent to achieve optimal lighting. But I'll bet the coin looks alot different in hand than it does in this thread. Mark G. posts on these boards regularly and offers some excellent photog. tips for numismatic items here: mgood3 photo tips

    Coin looks nice BTW image

DieClash- I was actually able to capture the color quite accurately. It is very vibrant on both sides, but I do appreciate the lead on photography tips. Lighting seems to be the most critical issue when trying to capture the correct color of toning.

Here's another, slightly better shot of the obverse.

OK--- I have a challenge for all those that say to slab this coin....

    1) What grade do you see on this coin?

    2) Given the grade you see- What price do you put on this coin in the slab with the grade you see?

I am just curious----lets not get into the slabbing fees/mailing fees/ time to prep order/ time to go to the P.O. etc etc etc

Hey Coindeuce--I like your coin and i hope I am not hijacking your thread

J.R.- I was hoping that someone would light the fire. The observed grade was exactly what I was expecting opinions on. To me, the color is a secondary consideration, and just a bonus, if it's worth submitting based on the expected grade assignment. image

I'm more confident with my circulated grading skills, but this one seems to exhibit alot of surface nicks and scratches that would grade MS62 on my consrvative scale. Maybe 63 tops. As for price, forgeddaboutit! I like the coin though image

    Jrocco,

The coin looks to be a 62 to me assuming that those aren't hairlines that I am seeing. This color pink is a "money color" so I would guess anywhere from $300 to $600 depending on who was bidding on it.

    $300 to $600

What would you value this coin in a 62 holder (assuming no hairlines like you said) without this color?

Why not? There's definitely some rub on the Eagle's breast, but I've viewed plenty of pics on these boards of Mint State coins that looked worse. So what makes this a circulated strike in your opinion?

This is my opinion of the pic and I will say it is only an opinion off a pic.
I see rub on the obverse. Good old fashion classic AU rub mainly visible as a change in the surface color as opposed to the normal weak strike that does not show this effect. See her cap.

Jrocco, without the color thats a $25 coin.

    Let me also add...

Rub is rub--no matter what anyone calls it. Rub on an MS coin makes it a non-MS coin.
An MS coin can have a little rub as much as a young (or older) lady can be a little pregnant,

    Thanks p8nt.
I don't have my pulse on this part of the market like you do.
    I appreciate your help.

Fair enough! But I also see full details in the cotton blossooms, which is where I'd expect to see first signs of circulated wear. Granted I am assessing the grade based on the photograph as you are. So maybe with coin in hand I would render a different opinion. image

The coin in question looks AU to me as well, I will not speculate on a value as I'm not a big toiner fan and do not follow that part of the market much.

p8nt- I won't disagree with you on that. Which brings me back to the title question of this thread. For the record, I personally graded the coin MS-61/62. Full cartwheel luster through the irridescent toning, but limited by the surface quality(some distracting contact marks) and the weakness of strike in the center of the devices(eagles breast, Liberty's hair over ear). I recognized the demand/value of the toning, but wasn't certain that it would override the technical merits of grade enough to make it worth slabbing. Therefore my question. And I do appreciate the civility of replies here. Gives me some faith that all hope isn't lost in light of recent other threads. image
