OK.. now I have a AT question??

I posted this image of a coin i bought because i loved it AT or NT.
Now that I am more computer savy I can post a better picture.
If you think it AT please tell my what the tell tale signs are.
I bought it thinking is probably was. The small untoned circles between the "TY " of liberty is what I thought most unnatural and a sign of doctering. Was i correct in thinking that?

so what do the experts think?

This is why I don't buy toned coins. I can't tell the difference!

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Remember, it's a proof. They frequently, (but, not always), tone differently than business strikes because the planchets are processed differently. As for the little untoned dots he mentioned, that's easily caused by something that was on the coin prior to storage in an album.
I'm assuming, though, that the reverse is mostly white. If it's toned the same, all bets are off.

No. As long as the reverse is mostly white, I'm quite comfortable with it being album toning.

It is one of my favorite coins.
I will try to post the reverse soon.
the reverse has some light hazing but no real color.

The light hazing is another indication of album storage.

Dansco's are notorious for ruining proof coins, but the same thing can happen with similar albums. Most of the time the coins turn crappy, but occasionally a pretty one will emerge.

Does it make a difference if I keep it in that special slipcase?
Thanks,

<< <i>If you like it Who cares? This whole AT/NT thing can be solved by buying what you like. A toned coin is a toned coin does it really matter how long it took to get there? >>
I tend to agree. Although some attempts at acclerating the process make for some fugly looking coins. It's all in the eye-appeal.

I'm in the same boat. I've been looking at these things off and on for about 30 years and I still can't tell the difference. Older "cruddy" silver just looks right to me. I do know a blast white Morgan when I see one and I can tell when thry've been dipped, but the wild colored stuff I tend to avoid.

I really don't care if others like my coin or not but I do care that I learn what is blatent AT and what is plausible NT.

I say it's "envelope" storage ........
EDIT: ..... I didn't notice the reverse was white
I agree with Russle......

Is that the archival quality slipcase? If so, it'll probably slow the process down, but there's still the pages themselves to worry about. But, storage environment is also a big factor.

Do people really store proof Commems in an album?
I have proof clad and silver non-commemorative coins that were in a Whitman album for over 20 years. Many of the older coins developed haze and toning, especially the silver pieces. Most of the toning began from the Rim inward and it was dark blue nearst the rim changing to lighter shades of golden toning toward the center. None of the affected coins exhibit full toning across the field and devices like this one though. Also, most of the coins 15 years and newer show little haze and no toning at all. I moved all my uncirculated, proof and silver sets from Whitman Classic albums into Intercept Shields two years ago. I guess another 2 decades will tell if this arrests the problem and prevents the new additions from hazing and toning.

Yeah, the one with the military invented barrier that neutralizes toning agents in the air. I beleive it utilizes copper somehow.
The pages, got it. I should find a better home for my proofs.
Thanks.

<< <i>Very nice coin but all the toning is to the inner (field) obverse on the coin; not the raised minted portions of the coin. >>
Which is precisely the way album toning develops, particularly on proofs with frosted devices.
