If it was a Joe Schmo average collector who submits a few times a year, that would be way cool and a feather in his or her cap.

Thread about this a couple weeks ago about this on the registry forum.
  • I am the Joe Schmo collector that made the 2003-P MS70RD penny. I submit a little bit more than a few times a year, ALOT more now that I have made this coin. I consider the term average collector to be about right for me, because I have only been into coins for about 3 years. So much more to learn! Thanks for the kind words.

I bet you were shocked with the MS70 grade! Congratulations!
A suggestion - sell it at auction for megabucks (over $100K)!

    futureshock2038: Welcome to the forums.

Please tell us the details of your story of acquiring, submitting and making the MS70 circulation strike Lincoln.

I am very pleased that an average collector made this coin. It gives us other average collectors a boost to our own hobby efforts.

Congrats! That is a whopper. I was thrilled as an average collector to make an MS67 Clad Ike. You just did something an order of magnitude bigger.

I bet an auction house would cut you a nice deal like low commision to let them auction it for you thanks to the attraction it will bring.

educate me on this one, I don't pay attention to much after 1837. Why is this so cool and what might be the value of such a coin in the right plastic?

That's a mega jackpot! I know I'd be on the phone with Heritage right this second if it was mine..
  • Whoever pays more than $10 for this pocket change coin just because PCGS says it's a 70 has money to burn. I just picked up a roll from the bank of new 2006's (for a friend's business) and they are all spotless and perfect in my eyes.

Platinum night at the FUN show -
  • You know if you cracked it out, resubmitted raw, it would come back a 69 or worse. Why PCGS would do this is beyond comprehension aside from the fact they will get a TON of submissions from everyone else trying to hit the lotto. SMART BUSINESS MOVE BY THEM, ACTUALLY!!!

Keeps the fees flowing in until the next wave of sucker-gathering - 100 point grading scale!!!

    What's the stock symbol again???

Loyd is right, it isnt worth diddly out of the plastic, and the chance of it grading MS-70 again if cracked and re-submitted are slim and none due to politics alone, however, its in a PCGS-70 holder and if sold at auction especially at a major convention, it will fetch 100k from someone who has plenty of dough and has to have the best !!!!

I would have that sucker on the way to an auction house pronto!!

Congrats to the submitter for making a humongo cha-ching@!!!!!

    FYI: PRESS RELEASE FROM TELETRADE:

    The 2003 1¢ PCGS MS-70 Red
It took 20 years, but in August 2006, the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) finally assigned the MS-70 Red grade to a Lincoln cent struck for circulation. This historic coin is a perfect 2003 Cent in full Red MS-70 and is being offered in Teletrade®'s Premier Plus auction to be held on Thursday, September 28, 2006.

Ian Russell, President of Teletrade® commented: "This is the first time PCGS has given a circulation strike Lincoln cent the MS-70 Red grade, and I am pleased Teletrade® was entrusted with its sale.... This is a rare opportunity to acquire the 2003 1c PCGS MS-70 Red, which is likely to end up in one of the top Registry sets."
