Check out this horrible example of "grading"....

This one is bad, even by ebay standards- a horribly cleaned au that is supposed to be 63pl.....
I hope nobody is naive enough to fall for that....

Oh yeah......
Check out the grading company's website above.
I think I'm going to start a grading company. Should I go with JCGS or just Joe's?
Joe.

But hey it's only $7.50 to have your coin slabbed...
1. poking fun at low quality coins in unrecognized grading company holders selling cheap?
2. Angry that someone is trying to rip off an unspecified naive buyer with an overgraded coin?
I sometimes get the impression it is 2 above but this thread seems more like 1. As for item 2, I'm not too worried. The auction is starting at melt and will probably sell for the price of a raw coin a grade or two lower, agreed?

The point is I'm entertaining myself here, as we all are to varying degrees....
Plus, I'm always shocked that some folks can be so numismatically uneducated, or numismatically unethical....

<< <i>pretty slick website for a no-name company though. I get the feeling that a couple dot-com nerds that know nothing about coins, but everything about fancy websites, started this company. >>
It is a slick website. Could even just be a pre-done flash template provided by their ISP. A lot of web hosts offer them these days. Their panel of experts are named but clicking did nothing on my end. No bios seem to be present.
Their site states "encapsulating the coin is our primary mission". In essence, I think that says it all. You pay to have it put in a slab for preservation purposes. I haven't seen enough of their results to comment on their grading but I'm skeptical to say the least.
Any grading company has an uphill battle trying to prove the can grade accurately and consistently. Coin collecting is such a cautious hobby that it seems unlikely that TPG not already in the top 5 (or top 3, or 2...) will gain collector respect anytime soon.
Although, this does bring an idea to mind. If PCGS, NGC or ANACS offered a $7.50 slab fee but didn't grade the coin, would you do it with a coin you just wanted to preserve in a nice sealed plastic holder? Do any of them offer this now and I'm just unaware?

One thing it might have going for it is VAM-7A (R-6, die chip in left wreath next to NI of UNITED), though it is hard to tell for sure.
