Spamming this board is not the way to do it image
  • I do apologize. That is not my intention to spam the board.
I have taken your suggestion and posted in the general
    discussion board.

You may also want to add a profile, so people can see that you're not a spammer, and enable your PM function. Heck, if you are into coins, you could even *gasp* participate before ltrying to lure members here to your site image
  • Okay I will add to my profile. I must warn you I am only an amatuer coin collector tho image I have been slowly collecting coins to give to my 8 year old daughter when she gets old enough. I work for a very well known domain name registrar and more of a computer geek then a coin collector. I do love collecting coins though and will visit this board quite often. I would like to build my coin collection for my daughter and I see that many of the members here are experts. I would also be very interested in advertising on this forum. Any idea who I might be able to talk to about that?

    Welcome, then!

On advertising - you might want to speak with the owner - Collector's Universe image
  • Welcome,

What sorts of coins have you been interested in?
The strangest things seem suddenly routine.
  • Well hmm... Most of the coins I have collected so far probably aernt worth too much. I mainly have silver dollars from the late 1800's that were given to me by my Aunt when she passed away. I have 12 of them. I also have the complete set of Sacagawea gold dollars. I have a lincoln memorial penny set. Every year Lincoln was on the penny is in the set. I also have the complete set of state quarters which really is not worth much I'm sure. Then I have various silver quarters and dimes I have managed to save from the loose change I have gone through. Lately though I have been very interested in Gold Eagles. Just not quite sure when I can buy some and what I should look for when buying them.
  • Well, I'd suggest trying upgrading your moderns from pocket change. It will improve your power of observation. You'll begin to see the marks more quickly, the differences in luster, the variation in strike, the points of wear on higher grade circulated and low mint state coins--all very important skills.

The gold eagles should sell for a little over melt. I'm not sure that I'd bother with high grade pieces. Just check around for the best price and watch out for marks.

  • Oh dear, in re-reading I fear I may have misunderstood. If you've bought those quarters, you may not be able to upgrade them from pocket change from pocket change. If that's the case, you might try a date set of dimes or quarters starting from 1965. It'll be pretty challenging to find nice ones forty years old, but it will provide you with the skills I was talking about, and that's pretty much how a lot of us got started. image

  • oops, double post. image

  • Thank you very much for your advice. I really appreciate it. I have been looking at the American Eagle 20th Anniversary Silver Coin Set (A10)
and I think I am going to purchase a few of those sets. What do you think? The set of 3 are selling for $100.00
  • It may turn out to be a reasonable deal. The reverse proof stands a chance of appreciation, I think.

Of course, I have paid almost no attention to the bullion products. So there are no doubt other members who can give a more qualified opinion than I.

  • Take a look at this thread about the anniversary sets. There's some serious discussion here about appreciation potential.

  • Remember what construct mentions...bullion products...

You normally pay a premium going in and hard to recoup getting out.

This one may be different though. Limited mintage. Reverse proof. If I were speculating on short term, I'd probably speculate on this one. On the other hand he's buying it for long term (his daughter), which is really speculative.

  • Very good point.

    Thx for the welcomes! image

I agree the long term is what I should look at because this is a collection for my daughter which I will give to her in 10 - 13 years.
