When I worked part-time at a shop, I had the opportunity to counsel people on buying coins from JIM BU i.e. Coin Vault. Person the errors of their way.
Alos convinced an elderly couple to bring in her fathers colelction instead of taking it ot the bank. had about $300 face value and they wanted to go out for a ncie dinner. They had over 120 Morgans including a Tail Bar and 6 other CC's, mostly AU, the normal junk silver (Barbers and SLQs and mercs) and lots of eraly Lincolns and IHCs. I found a nice AU 08-S IHC, AU 09-S IHC, XF 09-S VDB, 3 14-D;s in VF, a 22 Plain in VG amongst others. Wrote them a check for about $4,500. They had that nice dinner in Mazatlan.
Probably finally sucking it up and buying the 1877 IHC for my set a couple years back. Or at the very least, it was certainly my highest sense of accomplishment.
From here on out, I work on the better dates first...
I think the most positive experiences I have had so far as a Numismatist have been from joining this forum. So many good people that I can talk with every day and share in their knowledge of coins. I have learned so much in my time here already, and I do hope to be able to give back someday.
My 2000th post is in honor of the great people here.
Plopped down a sack of a few thousand circulated Lincon's in front of my daughters girl scout troop, gave each of the girls a new blue Whitman penny board each and told them they could keep the board with as many cents as they could find a new home for---Talk about a bunch of young kids having fun.
One smart young lady shows me a full board before she leaves and said she got tired of looking at all those dates so she just started at the beginning and filled all the holes with the prettiest ones she could find--smart kid...
Hey---you weren't at my house when you were little Amanda now were you???
With the help of many fine members here who also donated coins for auction it was taking the $2400.00 to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief last year. All of the money was raised on the Buy Sell Trade forum from purchases that members here made.

...become a numismatist...or was it the time I started joining coin clubs and met people who are into the same stuff as me? It's still a mystery!!!
