Not sure if Topps made those in 96?? Looks like a giveaway card from Fenway on Opening Day in 1996 to me.

I searched Beckett Website for all "Topps Opening Day" sets.

The set was first issued in 1995, and then from 1998-2006. Ted Williams was not listed in any of the sets.

Not sure what it is--maybe Stingray has it right.

No, the card isn't from 06 Topps, I've had it for a couple years...maybe more.........could it possibly be some kind of promo card?? I know that they were all the rage at one time
  • I believe they were given out in the Boston area when the Ted Williams tunnel opened up....
If I remember right, they may have come in the Boston Globe...or were handed out opening day at the game.

I saw one at a show once..and the dealer was yammering on and on about the card....but it was just noise and I didn't really pay too much attention to it.

I went back to Beckett online and searched for all Ted Williams cards that are #9.

Could your card be from the "2001 Red Sox Commemorative Set"? His card is #9 there.

Your scan is not big enough that I can see any of the copyright information on the bottom of the back of the card. Is there a copyright date?

I'm getting too old, I had to get my loupe out to read the writing but it says:

    LICENSED BY MLB 1996

It also has written on the back Central Artery Tunnel....Opening Day December 15, 1995 so this may lend credence to it being associated with the Ted Williams Tunnel when it opened up. I'm just trying to figure out how it ended up in my house near Cleveland!! Could it have been inclucluded in factory sets that year??? or as a pack insert??

    Maybe I should ask Topps.

thanks everyone for trying to help.

Well, whatever it is, it is not currently cataloged by Beckett online. They only list one Ted Williams card for 1995-1996. It is in the
"1995 Eagle Ballpark Legends" set, but it is card #5 (not #9).

I've had other cards before that Beckett did not list. Some of them they eventually added to the checklists, others they did not.

Good luck, maybe someone with the "Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards" (I think that is the correct title) can find it listed. I recall they listed a good number of odd-ball sets that Beckett does not list.
