For set collectors

What sets are you close to completing...in terms of percentage? How long have you been building the set? What specific cards are you finding the most difficult to attain?

A link to your set on the registry (with pics!) would be great.

thanks

Of the sets in which I have at least 50% completion:

    Baseball

    1954 B 98%
    1954 RH 79%
    1954 T 62%
    1955 T DH 86%
    1955 T 95%
    1956 T 88%

    Football

    1954 B 70%
    1955 T AA 71%
    1960 F 62%

I've been working on the baseball off and on for the past 10 to 15 years. Obviously the '55 Clemente and the '56 Mantle have been the most difficult but only because of the price.

The Clemente prices have been crazy as of late. OCs and MCs mean nothing regardless if there's a qualifier or not image

I've been working on the football for the past 2 years. Something to tide me over when I can't find the BB cards I want image

1972 TOPPS 99.62% complete in PSA 8 or better

I started this set on Dec 1 2004, and have been building it on a daily basis:

    I need three cards:

    296 Dick Dietz IA
    512 Wayne Garrett
    582 Expos team card

I have raw examples of the Dietz IA and Garrett cards which should grade out.

The Expos team card is my Holy Grail...................only three newly graded ones in the last year only one of which showed up on EBAY.............raw examples I find are horrible............plus a number of other set collectors lack this card also.

All the sets are complete, but I have very little left to grade except for some 71s and 72s. I need 3 more cards in 61-Tony Taylor (easy to get), Ryne Duren (tough) and Don Landrum (also tough). Bob Miller is on his way. I plan to upgrade the 61 to all eights. I will keep the 7s for now in the other sets.

Carew Master Set---The two toughest cards to find will be the 1982 FBI Disc( regional) and the Red Barn Disc ( virtually impossible to find) . I only know of one in existence and it belongs to Randall. But Randall has to get a McAn Discimage

1977 Topps Star Wars 1-330 and 1977 Topps Star Wars Stickers 1-55 and Magic Johnson Master Set. The cards for all three are relatively easy to find, but extremely difficult to find MINT copies of some...

'15 Cracker Jack- need 1 (Joe Jackson) 4 years
'54 Dan Dee- need 1 (Mantle) 2 years
'51 Bowman- need 2 (Mantle and Mays) 4 years
    '52 Bowman- need 1 (Mantle) 4 years
Unopened pack run '52, '56,'58 Topps nickel 2 years
'33 Goudey- Some guy named Lajoie

with the exception of the packs and the Cracker Jacks I haven't been trying. It'll happen when it happens.
The Goudey and CJ sets would've been completed had I wanted to pick up the lower grade copies I was offered- not doing so was the only big mistakes I've made in this hobby, since both go for considerably more than they did then.

97% 1959 Topps Master Set in PSA6 EXMT or Better.I have been working on this set approximetly a year but have owned a complete raw set since 1980.I would say that probably more than half the cards were submitted from my raw set and the rest have been repurchased already graded.I am having one heck of a time finding Woody Held,Bob Skinner,Daryl Spencer & Cepeda ALL STAR in 6 but preferably a 7.It Ranks currently #10 on Registery 59 Topps Master Set.
Can anyone out there help me with these?pm me if so.

No.... it is not short print....it just seems always to be OC...it has now moved to the second hardest card in the set to find in PSA 8 or better..........( actually there is now one on ebay in PSA 9 but I doubt I will spend the bucks needed to win this card.)

1970 Kellogg's Baseball - Need 2 cards. One of the first graded cards I ever bought was a PSA 8 Bob Gibson off ebay about 5 years ago. I'm not sure when I started working on the set, but when I finish it will be the lowest rated complete set on the registry as nearly all the cards are PSA 8. Right now it is just an issue of waiting for the cards to come up on ebay or another outlet.

I'm tempted to submit all the PSA 8 cards to see how they come back, but it might not be worth the investment.

86-87 Fleer- I have completed one set and 95% of a second that is only missing commons, I have about 80% of a third and many other extras. The two Jordans are PSA 8 and BGS 7.5 I just recently built a sticker set for the first set. I have worked on these for about 5 years.

I recently started 96-97 Topps Chrome and this somehow snowballed into 3-4 sets aswell. I now have 218/220 and need only a Kobe and pippen to complete the first set. The second set is 198/220 and the third set is 166/220 and again I have a lot of extras. I started this set a few months ago and other than a couple massive lots, these are hard to find. There are some singles on naxcom but they are priced $.50-$1.00 each for commons.

Should anyone have 96-97 Topps Chrome or 86-87 Fleer raw cards PLMK
    Thanks

1972 Topps Baseball in EXMT or better. Had 52/787 left but just picked up a huge lot off the Bay - so hopefully this will bring me close to the end.

I've been serious about it for just over 2 years.

Look for my doubles on the Vintage & Buy-Sell boards before Ebay.

I am putting together the 2000 Gallery Players Private Issue set. Currently, I am the only one doing so. As each card is numbered to 250, I don't see a lot of competition. I have just gotten my second 25 card sub back, and that now puts me at 65.33% done. I have 13 more raw cards to get graded and that will leave me just under 75%. These last 30 or so are getting quite hard to find. Link to the set is in my sig.

Franks post reminded me of the sets that had one annoying last card that was harder to find than it should have been. In some cases it took twice as long to find that card than it did to assemble the rest of the set. Here's my list of those:

    '70 Kellogg's- Cullen
'54 Red Heart- Snider (always OC)
'70 Rold Gold - Speaker (at one point Davillilo, GoSox, and I were all stuck needing this one)
'64 Giants- Romano (although Brinkman was almost as tough)
    '56 Topps- Neal
    '41 Playball- Trotsky
