Value of True View In Light of Recent Events

The value of a True View image came to light during the recent forum frakus. An image of what the coin looks like when slabbed is one way to ensure against in-holder tampering.

It's not relevant since the tampering is done with rattler holders. No examples of this with new holders has come to light, and it's unlikely that it can be done.

Of course, you could tamper with the coin in the rattler and then send the coin for TrueView. The coin will get photographed and reslabbed in a new model slab. Unless one is keen to the cert#, most people would never know that the coin was previously in a rattler.

I bet a decent amount since some people prefer those holders, but then again who knows!

Actually, I was wrong. I just heard from Phil Arnold that coins are reviewed by graders before the slabs are cracked.

So... if upon review they decide the original grade is no longer applicable then what? Is it treated as a Guarantee resubmission?

Was wondering same thing about reholder service. $5 seems too cheap to involve a grader. He might have been able to get them in new slabs even. Perhaps PCGS should refuse to accept the old ratlers under that service level.

Remember that the coins MOC was involved with were relatively low-value coins. It would be unusual to pay up for True View for say, a $40 Morgan dollar.
