I just got these two and I thought I would share some pics. The 1886 nickel is the most interesting out of the two. What do you guys/gals think of them?

    Very nice indeed.

Have you even seen or heard of a Columbian Expo stretched double dime?

Nope, never seen one. I don't really collect these, so I don't know a lot about them. You should ask board member tmot99, he would probably know.

Nice! Do you collect material associated with classic commems or just the Columbian Expo? I have a couple of nice spoons from the Columbian. I think the associated material is terribly underrated.

    Cheers,

Neither, I just picked these up for type but I do find exposition material interesting. Maybe in the future I will.

Yikes! The date and details show up really well for having been a recently minted coin.

The only Lousiana Purchase Expo item I have is a carved wooden egg brought back by my great-great aunt. Why didn't she think ahead to figure out her great-great grand nephew would collect elongated coins? image

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Was there a premium associated with the 1886? I find that to be very neat, a several hundred dollar coin smushed but does it still retain some of the numismatic value.

    I paid:

    1886 nickel- $35

    1892 dime- $50

    tmot99,

I'm trying to determine the die #'s for these:

    1886 Nickel elongated- Die #1c - ILL-WCE1c

    1892 dime elongated- Die #1a - ILL-WCE1a

Can you confirm if that's right? Thanks.
