Were the 1918/17 overdate nickel and quarter related or merely coincidential?

I thought I'd start a thread about coins to help negate all of the bad vibes on these boards lately.

It's a legitimate question--what do you think?

  • They are related in the fact that because of the war effort , young men who were workers at the mint had gone off to defend our country leaving the mint shorthanded. So some of the 1917 dies were used in 1918 and never completely removed the 1917 and this happened in more then one series.

Working dies for 1917 and 1918 were being prepared at the same time. So one die (1917) after being annealed went under the 1918 hub by mistake.
