Thinking about a coin's history from bullion.

Recent threads on history/collection designations/pedigrees(sp) of coins got me to think about
the originating bullion of the coins I collect. I wondered if any one has ever been able to track
a coin back to it's origination. I figured that other than specimens and famous coins, this
would be almost impossible to do.
My searches for info brought up some interesting reading and documents. The following receipts
from the D mint were found in the Georgia archives. Impossible to know, and improbable; but I
daydreamed about the different bullion drop offs and the actual coins made from that batch
somehow being one of my coins. The miners probably didn't get coin from their own bullion??
Imagine if they did and a collection was started and documented.

So a question, what it the most documented coin's history from bullion to coin in collection?
Is there an actual circulated/uncirculated coin(s) with this kind of provenance(sp)?
