Advice needed: Gold coins from a former neighbor

09sVDB09sVDB Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭
I am about to come into possesion of six raw $20 gold pieces. I believe there are three Liberty's and three Saints. The coins are from a formar neighbor for whom I helped sell a large collection a few years ago who has since moved out of state.
My question is the following: I plan on having the coins looked at as possible PCGS submissions, and then selling them( certified or not) either here or on Ebay. What if anything would be fair to ask above the possible submission fees for my time?
Thanks for your opinions, Wayne

  • It would depend on the final grade, whether they are worth of slabbing, then melt value at the time. There's a lot to figure into the equation.

  • Are you buying them from your old neighbor or are you the middle man in doing the transaction. It sound like your the middle man and need to know what $$ to chard in addition to certification and auction related charges. Second part is: good neighbor or pain in the a$$ neighbor?

Assuming good neighbor, your selling the coins and you are the middle man - 10%

Assuming bad neighbor, your selling the coins and you are the middle man - 20% (the extra 10% for the "where's my money call" that will occur every day)

You do have the added hassle of selling the coins raw (switched upon reciept, fakes etc)

    Just my 2cents

10% above costs. Depending on the grades of the coin, slabbing them may/may not be worth your while and the additional expense.
  • Coin prices are not based on "time" - unless your retailing to a client - the market will dictate what they realize.
