Attention Please Card-Pirate Busters...

Below is the email addy of the guy at eBay
who claims to understand some of the
problems with card scamsters.

jed2@ebay.com

Henceforth, when pirate busters find pirates
harming the hobby/business, it will be a good
thing to flood this guy with detailed information
about the infractions.

The standard reporting system is broken. It is
nothing but eBay's cya mechanism. The folks
who read your complaints have no idea what
you are talking about when you say things like
"PSA in the title w/o PSA card." Going around
the regular reporting method may spook eBay
into doing a little better job. They need to be
made to understand that if they cannot solve
the problem, maybe the FTC and the FBI can.

eBay now knows that the FTC is concerned that
consumers are being defrauded on the "venue."
It is a good time to turn up the heat on the
people at eBay who are supposed to keep the
site clean.

Any kind of infraction including: key-word spam
(PSA in non-PSA-auction titles); fake flips; disclaimers
by sellers who say they "know nothing about cards;"
fake cards; overly-enhanced cards; stolen scans;
etc, should all be reported in the standard system,
AND emailed in note form to the email addy below.

jed2@ebay.com

They will not be able to totally ignore a steady stream
of complaints. You can use regular email and just state
your preferred eBay user-ID.

This is a pro-eBay effort. It may be one of the last chances
they are given to save themselves from bad things.

EMAIL

jed2@ebay.com

If they shut this email addy down, the WSJ and HBO will ask
them why they did so.

Jed's not new to us that have been trying to keep the scammers under control. He actually started out really good with almost immediate responses when he first came onto the eBay discussion board.

Here is a thread that was started on Nov-16-05 New Sports Mem Category Manager Checking in .

You can see how things were generally going and then you get to the end and notice that it had been over six months since he had made a post.

So I took him up on his last post and emailed him the following.

    Hi Jed,

This seller scarfacetheworldisurs is trying to pull a fast one.

He clearly bought a reprint that was altered to resemble a real card here:

1940 SHOELESS JOE JACKSON PLAY BALL One of the best reprints out there

Notice that this seller was NARU'ed

Now fast forward to the auction that this guy has up now:

1940 PLAY BALL SHOELESS JOE JACKSON #225 $2500

No mention of the fact that it's a reprint.

Here are some pics of from both auctions.

Seller also has a Babe Ruth 1916 Sporting News for auction as well and I'm willing to bet that it was bought off of eBay as a reprint but I haven't been able to find that info to prove it. 1916 SPORTING NEWS BABE RUTH #151 RARE !

    Thank You

Of course nothing was done and the Jackson sold for $222.50 and the Ruth for $600.

But I feel that Jed is trying. This is from his last post on eBay.

I have responded to them all and tried to help remedy the situations

Problem is that the powers that be don't want to remedy these problems. They know about them and even when they clearly are shown what's going on they choose to ignore it and let the crooks continue to get away with every scam they can pull.

Bottom line is eBay wants the money and doesn't care about those that get screwed over.

I talked to somebody (kevin?) at GAI just a few minutes ago about this card. It's listed on Ebay for $1000, listed as certified. I asked the guy and he said if GAI didn't think it was legit they wouldn't have put a ? mark.

The guy at GAI said he has some contacts on ebay and he'll get that fixed. I'm curious to see how long it's still active.
