If Ownership Adds a Point, Maybe TrueView does, too.

Shylock’s thread with images of TDN’s coins evolved into a discussion of TrueView. Comparing Shylock’s images with TrueView – without seeing any of the coins in person – I’d say that Shylock’s pictures appear to be a more honest depiction of the coins. TDN says otherwise.

This discussion brought to mind the HRH maxim: Ownership adds a point to the grade of a coin. There’s often a slight gap between perception and reality. Does the same principle apply in how the owner of a coin assesses the accuracy of TrueView images? Maybe Phil’s job is to create an image that shows the coin as the owner perceives it.

I requested Phil get the colors accurate when taking my images. I knew in advance this meant the luster would be diminished. He followed my directions to the letter. I'm sure that if I asked him to do a series of shots, the first with accurate colors, the second with emphasis on luster and the third to highlight any marks, he would do just that.

What do pix have to do with adding a point to the grade?

Did you read the OP or just the title?

Shylock's pix have almost no color in them so how could they better represent a coin that appears to have lots of color unless the TruView pix are juiced?

I own two coins that have TrueView images of them, neither coin did I send in for the service, and one image looks exactly like the coin while the other image looks nearly nothing like the coin.

This has been talked about over and over. Color or luster. Combination is difficult to get. Phil highlights whatever of the two you want to have shown.

People have said the same about this coin....until they see it hand. There response is usually something like this...

"HOLY !@#$, that looks just like the pic!!, I never thought it could look that good!!"

My impression of the Merc you have showing there is that the image is likely very close to what the coin looks like in-hand. It just has that "look".

There are lots of pix out there from the auction houses and many board members that don't much resemble the coin in hand.
