I know one of the diagnostics of Sheldon NC 3 is the one touching the hair.

Well, that's one diagnostic. image The reverse die is another diagnostic and there is no way I could tell you anything about that.

I don't have my attribution guide handy, but that looks like a Sheldon 60 or 61( same obverse for these two ).

Actually, I think it's Sheldon 62 because of the stubby lower lock of hair. Could be 61, but definitely not 60 (berry configuration on right side is incorrect).

Shamika, it can't be an S-62--there is no wedge shaped defect at the back of the head just beneath the cap( S-62 is Maris's "Trephined Head".

  • It's a S-61. LIBERTY down close to the hair says it is after S-44. The juntion of the hair and forehead is just about centered between the R & T. That tells me is is S-60, 61, or 63. It isn
t the fallen 4 so that eliminated S-63. next I use the point of the highest leaf om the right wreath branch. On S-60 it is under the center of the second S in STATES. On S-61 it is almost under the left edge of the bottom serif of the S. This is S-61.
