Texas Satin Quarters do exist!!(pics inside)

Picked up 3 more Texas Coin and Currency sets today and showed them to many dealers including high members of the TNA and they all agreed these were either matte or satin finish quarters. The sets were made in 2006 and released July 26th, so I have no idea when the quarters were struck. 2000 sets were made with 2 quarters each, so 4,000 special finish quarters would have been made. Here are the pics from one set, there is a tiny milk spot on one of the coins, but just look for yourself. MAybe worth looking into a set, and no my sets are not for sale. I have huge pics if you really want to see.

  • So there's 2000 P and 2000 D each. I hope the mint, or was it the BEP that put these out, doesn't now mass produce them. Any current prices on these now?

  • Both are D, they onl came out of the C&C set which is sold out, so it will probally be the only way to get them. Price wise??? None of the dealers even new they were special finish and were all taken back. Tha last 2 sets the guy had, when other dealers heard me discussing it with a major TNA member ran over and bought the last 2 in about 30 seconds. Vulturesimage I woke up bright and early for the drive to make sure I could get some more sets.
  • It's looking good for those that bought them!!

Sounds like he already caught his limit. image

Cool. It's good to toss some more rarities into this program. While many collectors
have missed out on these, many others just picked up a set automatically. The mint
has been making oddball stuff for years but it doesn't attact much attention.

  • And the Mints official position on these is that they are not matte finish but just normal coins. Yet another example of why you can't trust information coming out of the Mint.
  • conder, the bep has made a statement that the quarters were normal business strikes, but i'm not aware of the mint making a statement on these coins yet. please correct me if i'm wrong.
  • Coin World Sept 11th issue, page 5 Quarters from BEP set possess normal finish paragraph 4 "However, the coins do not bear any special finish, according to Mint officials"

These were submitted to Mr Hall for authentication I believe by ar18. Still waiting for his answer.
  • Perhaps a little post strike sand blasting or other finish processing would do the trick. Perhaps this is another mystery for the Mythbusters.

  • Coins are on the way, sent in all 4 to Mr. Guth. Will let you all know.

P.S. Last I checked the BEP didn't mint coinsimage

It seems like most big institutions have a tendency to release conflicting and erroneous
information. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and most of the peo-
ple inside are specialists with very few seeing the big picture. Those few who do know
what's going on rarely work in public relations and might not know all the details anyway.

  • Heh, they aren't satin, I dunno why the mint would lie about it image
What do you think, Mr. Bigglesworth?
