what is this on my 1926 Peace? crack, VAM??

Hi,

i was looking thru my peace's and morgans tonight to see if i saw any cracks or VAMs (not that i know what they are...) and i found this on my 1926s peace.

I looked at it at 60x and it wasn't a scratch, it kinda looks like a small piece of hair sticking out (the width of a hair).

i attached a pic of it (best i could do). if you look above the 2nd from right ray, you will see what appears to be a tiny hair sticking out. i looked at some other peaces and this "hair" isn't on the other coins.

what the heck is it?

thanks

Craig

  • thanks.

i went to that site and another before i posted here to see if i could find anything. i first looked up my date and didn't find any resemblance. there's also a lot of info. on those pages. i'll keep trudging thru.

  • It actually looks like a 1926-s Vam 4 "DOT" Top 50 coin... On this coin, this area on the obverse has some severe die polishing. Turn over the coin and see if you can find an extra berry in the leaves like this photo....

  • i don't see an extra berry with my loupe. i'll get the mini microscope out and check, but from your pic, i should be able to see the berry with my eyes let alone my loupe.
  • These are clash marks... for these type of clash marks to qualify as a VAM they need to transfer a letter...
  • thanks, i kinda figured this was a common run of the mill coin. all the silver i got from my grandma is only worth bullion, no key/semi's, i figured this coin would be the same thing.

    thanks
