Greetings,
I recently got back into the hobby and joined PSA last week. You seem to have a great community here and hopefully I will be accepted as one of you.
A little about myself:
Back in the early 80s I ran around with my favorite players in my pockets and would take them to games so I could look at each one when that player was up at bat. In the summer of 1985 my uncle came over and gave me my first full box of Topps wax packs (that was a really big deal for me), some holders, and an 800 count storage box. That day I learned how to take care of my cards. I was hooked from that moment. After that day we never went anywhere without coming home with cards in hand. That was the good old days when just about any type of store had cards near the register or on a shelf. I quit collecting in the early 90s when I got too frustrated. I would build a few sets each year for each major brand: Donruss, Fleer, and Topps but then along came Sportflics and Score so I collected those too. After that it just got nuts! Do not get me wrong I loved the neat extras that were available like Slurpee discs, Drake’s coffee cakes cards, Jiffy Pop discs (started a lot of stove fires with those as a kid), Kraft, Key Food, etc. but the major set brands ruined the hobby for me. I am not sure what made me visit a card store about 15 years later but it seems I may be hooked again.

card collecting hobby.
Tom
I will be making a set or two each year but will not be going crazy for the limited cards. I just want examples of the players for fun. I did buy a few boxes of Sweet Spots from 2004 and 2006 in the card store just for kicks though. For the most part I will be collecting vintage baseball. As a teenager I had a good paying job for those days and my money was split up between girls and cards. My uncle and I would go crazy buying vintage boxes and loose packs. I have at least one set each from the years 1967 through 1975 that we put together from packs or vending boxes that we opened. Mid 60s on back packs were very expensive so my late 40s through 1966 sets are about half done. When it comes to the 80s stuff there is nothing for me to collect since I stockpiled it back in the day. I must have at least a dozen factory sets for each year of the major brands plus all the hand made sets and I know I have two Tiffany sets from each year 84 to 92 that I never opened. I still have some older unopened stuff too like 1975 rack boxes and I have a few shoe boxes full of penny packs from the mid 50s that I bought right before I quit collecting. I think I have some late 70s vending cases that I never got around to either. There is just so much to go through and I have been out of the hobby for so long. I think what I am going to do is start selling my vintage duplicates so I can try to finish my pre 1967 sets. I am new to grading so the big thing for me is where to start. I am leaning towards 69 Topps because they are the easiest to get to but who knows. Right now I am a little confused with the way the market changed. I guess I just need to get my feet wet. I am sure I will have lots of questions down the road so any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very afraid of buying cards that have been trimmed and they seem to be everywhere now so I have a lot of learning to do. I am still getting familiar with these forums but hopefully there is a place to do some trading too.
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome
Rob
Welcome aboard and enjoy. If you need a random picture off the internet just ask lawnmowerman. He loves that stuff.

sounds like someone needs to put their cards where their mouth is

Be careful what you wish for!
As I am sure everyone would agree, we can always use more Yankee fans around
It sounds like you have one heck of a collection already. You'll have a great time getting back into the swing of things. I collect Yankees stuff almost exclusively now, and anything Mattingly, so anytime you wanna talk, or have a question feel free to shoot me a message. Enjoy !

Welcome Rob.
Holy crap! Racks from the 75! Any stars on top? How about a scan? And penny packs from the 50s!
Again, any scans would be great! You're my new hero!
I look forward to your contributions.
And last - I was a big Yank fan when I was at school in NYC.
