    << <i>AFC EAST
    Patriots
    Dolphins
    Jets
    Bills
    >>

I agree with you here...the Bills are a mess, and the Jets aren't much better. Pennington has looked sharp but the running game is a big Q.

    << <i>South
    Colts
    Jaguars
    Texans
    Titans
    >>

Titans will have a better record than the texans, who will be vying for the #1 draft pick again. I think the Jags are going to be fortunate to finish at .500.

    << <i>North
    Bengals
    Ravens*
    Steelers
    Browns
    >>

I think the Bengals are going to be in trouble this year. I can see the Ravens taking this division, Steelers #2, Bengals 3rd, and Browns in last. Bengals with all their off the field distractions, Palmer not being 100%, and just get a general bad feeling.

    << <i>West
    Chargers
    Broncos
    Chiefs
    Raiders
    >>

I'd flip flop SD and Denver, but the rest looks good. Chargers going to the playoffs as a wild card.

    << <i>NFC EAST
    Giants
    Redskins
    Eagles
    Cowboys
    >>

I don't see there being any way with the talent the cowboys have they finish in the cellar. I think the order will be:

    Cowboys
    Redskins
    Giants
    Eagles

Eagles in trouble with no receivers, westbrook hurt, and the defense 2 years older than the team that went to the NFC championship game.

    << <i>South
    Panthers
    Buccaneers*
    Falcons
    Saints
    >>

This looks right, with the Bucs grabbing a wild card.

    << <i>North
    Vikings
    Bears*
    Packers
    Lions
    >>

I really like the vikes this year in the north, and Johnson has looked incredibly sharp in the preseason. This looks like the order I'd go with as well.

    << <i>West
    Rams
    Cardinals
    Seahawks
    49ers
    >>

Seahawks finishing third? That I have trouble seeing. I'd see:

    Seahawks
    Cardinals
    Rams
    49ers

    << <i>SuperBowl XLI - Panthers over Colts >>

    AFC Championship Game:

    Chargers vs. Baltimore, SD winning

    NFC Championship Game:

    Dallas vs. Minnesota, Dallas winning

    Super Bowl:

    Dallas over SD

Rams fan is smoking the wacky weed a bit too early in the season...you might want to save it for Decmeber when you are rooting for
your team to lose so you can get the #1 pick next year! Your defense is sorry, and the Kurt Warner years are long gone. If Steven
Jackson breaks down, you all have nothing....plus you can't beat the Seahawks, so why even pretend?

    JS

PS..I will say some of your picks were a little different, but just cause you hate Seattle and Dallas, doesn't mean you have to
put them at or towards the bottom!! LOL

More delusional people picking the Ravens. Based on what? McNair? Please...
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
What, you think the steelers are going to do anything this year? They were lucky to even make it into the playoffs last year! They've lost their grinder when the Bus retired, ben's still loopy from the motorcycle accident, and the schedule is going to be even tougher than last year. Throw in the likelihood of this being cowher's last year as coach, and you have a recipe for disaster in pitt land.

Besides McNair (who's body is about 60 years old), what have the Ravens added since last year? I'll take Pittsburgh's D over that aging, overrated D anytime...

I think McNair will surprise a lot of people this year, and that 'overrated' defense is still one of the most feared and hardest hitting in the league.

Seems that 'overrated' defense was pretty effective in shutting down 'big' ben last year, 18/30 for 177 yards?

Their record showed how tough that defense was last year. 6-10, I believe? One of the wins was in OT against a Tommy Maddox-led squad, too. McNair's going to be worth an extra 4-5 wins?
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
With McNair, and Jamal Lewis bouncing back after a bad 05 season, sure, I can see that happening.

To be honest with you, the NFL is going to be very mediocre this year. I don't see a great team in any of the 32 teams...

Eagles looked good last night against the Super Bowl winners. Yes, preseason is basically meaningless, but a late preseason game such as this with the starters in there for awhile says a little bit. WR is still a problem - I'm hopeful the Eagles can grab a "decent" WR off waivers, a veteran who has a little gas left in the tank.

No doubt the Eagles win the NFC East this season by at least two games over the second place team.

If Palmer is fully recovered from his injury, I think the Bengals have a great shot to win the Super Bowl. If he hadn't been injured in that game against the Steelers, the Bengals may very well have beaten the Steelers. The game seemed to be going in that direction before Plamer went down.

  • The Chargers all the way I say.
  • I'll put in my two cents and say Colts over Eagles in the big game. I know Eagles might seem a bit strange a pick, but they were great two years ago. There's no reason they can't be that good again after getting healthy.

Steelers were down 10-0 in the first quarter and if you don't think Palmer's injury adversely affected the Benagals offense or game plan, then you don't know much about football. All I was saying was that if Palmer had not been injured the outcome of that game may have been different. I'm sure if Charlie Batch had to take over for Big Ben, the same would have been true for the Steelers.

Did Palmer getting hurt factor into their defense giving up 31 points against the Steelers? The Bengals couldn't stop anything that day. The Steelers actually shut it down the whole 4th quarter or they would have had 48 points...
  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,694 ✭✭✭✭✭
With John Kitna at the helm, it's no wonder the Bengals D got worn out that day. Even so, with Palmer in there at QB, the Bengals scored 38 pts against that Steelers D earlier in the season, so who knows?

I'm a Steelers fan but I don't think they'll repeat. Bettis and Randell El were too much too lose. But, putting them behind the Ravens is crazy. They could still take the division. Super Bowl champs to just ahead of the Browns is insane.

Also, I think the Dolphins will take their division this year. Anybody but the Pats, please.

Texans ahead of the Titans? Come on.

Cowboys last place? I picked them to take the division.

Cardinals ahead of the Seahawks? Maybe, but I'm not sure on that one.

    The rest looks ok.

The steelers had to take a cheap shot and grab Carson by the ankle while they were laying on the ground. Thats cheap and payback is
    a bitc*

I still don't know why everyone has a hard-on for the NFC East. They have sucked for the years now. The Eagles have NO chance to
break .500 and the Cowboys, whom everyone is picking to go all the way, can't even decide on a QB!

Ridiculous post. People tend to forget that the Steelers beat some of the best teams in football week after week to win that ring. I hate when people try to belittle their accomplishments last year.

Also JS, every post you make is so blindly pro-Bucs that I doubt you could make any real analysis on the NFL without it ending with the Bucs winning the Super Bowl and their current year team being the best squad to ever take the field.

Talking about the Steelers vs Bengals game last year, it would be foolish for anyone to say Palmer getting hurt had no effect on that game. IMO the Bengals would have won the super Bowl had Palmer not gotten injured.

Wow, that's a stretch. I'm not saying it didn't affect the game, but for all any of us know, Palmer could have stayed in to throw 4 interceptions. Anything could have happened. Your saying the Steelers had absolutely zero chance of winning that game if Palmer stayed in, even though the Steelers took care of the mighty Colts (who were better than the Bengals). To say they would win it all and beat all those top ranked teams is quite a leap.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,647 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Just "IMO" thats all.
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
Steelers needed to play dirty to finally win a ring...thats ok...but don't be proud of that? Just cause you didn't dominate like the
the 02 bucs did, doesn't mean the ring is worth anything less......wellll...yeah it does!

I think he was probably referring to the numerous questionable calls that went against the Seahawks.

Not much of a leap at all...first play from scrimmage the Bengals light up the steelers' D for a 66 yard TD. It's not much of a stretch at all to say that the steelers would have fallen to the bengals. Yes they beat the colts, a colts team that hadn't played a meaningful game in over a month when they met, and were a field goal away from beating the steelers.

Ah, ok. I didn't like the SuperBowl either; for both the missed calls/questionable calls and the fact that after the first quarter the 'Hawks figured that Jeremy Stevens was the man to go to after Darrell Jackson did a number in the first quarter against the Steelers D. Truth is, the Steelers made the big plays. I don't care for either of those teams.

I thought the Bengals were going to beat the Steelers. Had Palmer not gotten injured, I'll go ahead and say it, they would have. People seem to forget not only how good Carson Palmer is, but just how much Jon Kitna blows. Remember Jon Kitna, yeah...that's who came in for Palmer.

Yea I could have cared less who won the Super Bowl after the Pats got bounced out, so Im not talking the Bengals up for any reason other than that I think they were the most talented team left at that point when they lined up against Pittsburgh.

Excellent prediction. Give that man a cigar.

    Bucs?

Sure they'll go far with Chrissy "Not That There's Anything Wrong With That" Simms. Can't get the ball over the D-line on a three step drop. Write us from "INT-land" Chrissy. The O-line is not really any better. He goes down before Thanksgiving. The Bucs do not make the playoffs.

    Cowboys?

See the new sig. It's over. Time for redemption. Not only is it the Cowboys, now they have the player most celebrated and accepted in Eagles recent history, and now reviled. Those who do not understand will never understand. Bledsoe? Inaccurate and a bad decision maker. Parcells retires again, this time in disgrace. So what do you see happening here Mr. Dawkins? "Pain, much pain."

To the rest of the NFC East. Respect is given, just get the f*** out of the way.

Now that's an astute observation considering that many see him as one of the hardest hitters in the league.

The Cowgirls should bring Charlie Waters back from retirement. Maybe then they'll have a secondary.
