    Gene,

I looked at that one, but my other buys ran me temporarily out of cash. I think, based on the photo, that it is between 63RB and 64RB, probably 64. The rolling of the dice comes into play regarding whether it has been cleaned. The photo doesn't look like a cleaned coin, but you never can tell.

Some of my best buys on the Bay have come from coins like this that others are afraid to bid on.

    Good luck,
    Rob

    Thanks Rob,

Just got a note from another board member that has me a bit wary of this seller. I hope it's a isolated incident 'cause his rating is 99.9 on 800+ feedbacks. Will know sometime late next week.

I rolled the dice on this one and crapped out. Coin is AU58 at best and dipped / recolored. But the rev is a shattered die. I need to get pix of it and send to BR on the CCRS site.

Would a 62RB justify the price?

62RB is valued at $400C, so yes, it's a good price.

I used Cacheman's trick of evaluating the photos as negatives. I cannot see any marks which leads me to believe the piece is 63RB at PCGS or 63Red at ICCS with a value in the $500-$800C range. If it goes 64RB I will be very image

Looks like there might be some trace fingerprinting, but not enough to be detract from that nice luster. That's a beauty.

Received the coin on Saturday. Photo comparisons:

    Sellers dark red background

    My cardboard tan background

    My scanner white background

In hand the 2nd set of photos (Sellers dark red background) are most close to actual color. There are fingerprints but they don't bother me. The surfaces are very nice, no evidence of being cleaned and no marks in the fields - in fact the fields look proof-like. There is a slight abrasion on Vickie's neck that is well hidden in the coloration. The reverse has verticle die polish lines. The 18 of the date is recut. This piece struck thru grease as can be seen by lack of detail on the crown (the X nearest her bun) and the weakness of the 9 in the date.

Off to PCGS she goes where I believe she'll grade out at 64RB. 1891 Large Leaves, Large Date, obv C2.
