Does anyone know how many of the micro o's was returned and how many still is in the pcgs holders.

I guess what i'm asking is how many micro o's are still in pcgs holders.

NOt counting the 1899-micro o

Here's an interesting update to these numbers. As of 6/29/06 the on-line pop report showed totals of 22, 27 and 34. >>

So it looks like 4 of each of these micro o's were turned in to PCGS. Interesting data; I always thought the 1902-micro o was the scarcest one of the three.

Here is some relevant info posted some time ago:

Since PCGS announced the counterfeit status of the 1896, 1900, and 1902 micro O Morgans about 6 months ago, owners of PCGS slabbed examples had the option of returning the coins to PCGS for compensation. PCGS had slabbed 26 of the 96-O's, 31 of the 00-O's, and 38 of the 02-O's. Many (including myself) have wondered how many people have taken advantage of the return program, and how many coins still remain in PCGS slabs. The population report no longer shows these three dates, so everyone was just guessing. However, today I went to the online PCGS population report, and did a lookup via the old PCGS coin numbers for these 3 varieties, and the stats appeared!! They showed that the current populations are 21 of the 96-O's, 25 of the 00-O's, and 29 of the 02-O's. I presume that PCGS reduces the population by one each time a coin is returned, so it appears that 5 96-O's, 6 00-O's, and 9 02-O's have been removed from PCGS slabs so far. The actual PCGS pops are certainly even less than stated above, due to crackouts/resubmissions - in fact I cracked out and resubmitted two 1902 micro O's myself when I thought they were undergraded.

Very cool. I wish I had accumulated those suckers. I kept my F12 1902-O, the only one in a PCGS slab. I cannot imagine losing money on those coins if they were bought anytime at market.

That means there are now (at most) just 75 total coins among the three dates in PCGS holders. Off the top of my head, I think I can come up where about half of them are.

There could actually be more than the pops show. PCGS did not start identifying the Micro-O and keeping a seperate record of them in the pop report until late 1998 or early 1999. Any micro O's slabbed before that time would have just been listed and included with the normal date pops.
