Derek Jeter’s single was the 1,532nd of his career, moving him ahead of Bernie Williams and Lou Gehrig for most singles in Yankees franchise history. The guy is only 32 years of age and has already broken the Iron Horse's record.
OK, Yankee bashers. Let's hear how OVE Jeter is.

He needs another 200 singles just to move into 100th all time, and another 400+ to move into the top 50.
That didn't take that long from one who lives for Yankee bashing. When Jeter retires in 10 years, God willing, he will be in the top 5 of your list, if not #1. How is your young phenom, Felix Hernandez doing tonight? Oh, I forgot he is taking a shower.
Mark Mulder rookies
Chipper Jones rookies
Orlando Cabrera rookies
Lawrence Taylor
Sam Huff
Lavar Arrington
NY Giants
NY Yankees
NJ Nets
NJ Devils
1950s-1960s Topps NY Giants Team cards
Looking for Topps rookies as well.

You think he's going to have 3200 SINGLES? Not hits, dope.
Taken him over a decade to get to 1500, he needs 1700 MORE to get to 3200...you think he's going to get there?
And felix got lit up tonight, but he's only 20...he's got plenty of baseball left in front of him.
Yep, I'll buy that.
<< <i>But, of course - it makes perfect sense. "Jete" would need to play another 12 seasons to be atop this list, which would mean he would be playing SS full time at the age of 44. Not to mention, because he is "Jete", his skills won't diminish one bit as he advances in age through his late 30's and early 40's - becoming the first player in MLB history whose stats actually get better as he gets older.
Yep, I'll buy that. >>
Don't be a hater!
We all know that Jeter will play until he's 50 (being the first man to do so), allowing him to finally reach the 4000 hit plateau.
there's no spinning...you're assuming he's going to maintain anything resembling the early part of his career into his 40s...that assume he even wants to play that long.
He's averaged 138 singles per year, you think he's going to barely dip under that the last half of it?
Try spinning that one, spammy.

Bonds' numbers got significantly better as he got older.
I can't stand the Yankees either, but Derek Jeter is one hell of a fine ballplayer, he doesn't seem to get in trouble and he generally comports himself well both on and off the diamond. As pro athletes go he's way down on the list of guys that I want to give any grief to.
Congrats to Jeter, and congrats to his fans.

Jerry, you need to stick your head out of Boston once in a while.

hey, hate him all you want! No problem there! The history of this is that ctsox and axtell like to twist and turn any available stats or stories of Jeter attempting to marginalize his true great ability to play baseball.

as axtell's initial reply pointed out....big deal.
<< <i>he's a good player but I don't understand all the celebrating over a player breaking a TEAM record.

I don't think Jeter thinks its a big deal either.
With the increased slugging since he came into the game, it will be tough for him to win one.
Being a big Jeter and Yankee fan, I wouldn't give him up for anyone, but winning or not winning a MVP will be the one thing that will follow him after his career.
Like tkd said, Jeter would probably agree. In fact, if it wasnt pointed out on the scoreboard, or mentioned by the writers Im sure he would have had no idea. Now that he was told, Im sure it still doesnt matter to him. That stuff is all just fluff for the YES network to pump up how great everything Yankees is.
Maybe it should be declared a holiday in NY since Bernie AND Jeter tied Gehrig this week.
BTW, nyyankyfan......you say Jeter is " only " 32 yrs of age and has broken the Iron horses record.......well, Gehrig may have taken 3 more full seasons than Jeter to get to that many SINGLES, but that is because he was busy amassing 200 more doubles than Jeter, 112 more triples, and 314 more HR's.
Look me up when he gets overall hit # 3,000 and maybe I will care.

I would agree 100% with you if the team you are talking about is the Osgosh Owls but we are talking about the New York Yankees here, the most storied franchise in all of sports. And Jeter broke Gehrig's record. Gehrig is one of the all time greats and I don't think even a Yankee basher or Red Sox fan cany deny that fact (or maybe they can) ). If Jeter's skills don't diminish over time I can see him playing well into his 40's like Pete Rose did because Jeter seems to live for baseball and enjoy the game.

Who cares if it's the yankees? it's a TEAM record, and not even top 100 all time...
I love how you twist and distort things. You fail to mention the fact that Jeter is only 32 years old. The question is how many at age 32 had as many singles at that age?
