Calling all Dads...You MUST see this! You MUST!

This is THE single most inspiring, truly fantastic, awe-inspiring thing I have ever seen. This story should lead every newscast, every sporting event, every parenting class and be shown to all high school kids in the county...daily. The fact that none of us know about these two guys and refer to Terell Owens as "T.O." and actually discuss him around the water cooler speaks volumes about us as people. I'd like to think we don't suck as a population, but the facts say otherwise...I, too, am guilty. Not as flagrantly as most, but guilty nonetheless...These two guys--if only for one day--ought to change the way you view who you work for, married, hope to become...and hope to raise.

Awesome.

wow. very nice story. i can't even think about doing a marathon, much less pushing someone in a wheelchair the distance. amazing.

    Thanks,

  • Pandrews,
I kinda figured I was missing the boat on these guys. I just got an email from a buddy Sunday night and it has changed my outlook each morning since. I have four kids 5 & under and the inspiration was a real lift. I'm sure you understand how surprised I was to have never heard of these great men. When the names of terrorists whose names are harder to decipher for the average 5-year-old than anything you could conjure from the reverse of a shampoo bottle roll off their little tongues and the kids at my son's school say things like "T.O. juz gotta git his", etc. It is uplifting and compelling to happen upon such a story.

The father and son were featured on RealSports on HBO.

    The story is pure inspiration!

So, for the dads out there who's son comes up to ya on a tuesday afternoon after you've worked all day and your boss is a pain - and the son asks: "dad - would ya throw the ball with me?" Even if your leg is falling off - go for it!

Thanx for bringing it up dgf.

    Outstanding !

Truly an inspirational story. I have no doubt that everyone of us could find a way to "do for those who can`t"

Thank you for helping us remember how GREAT a fathers love for his children can be.

  • Guys....this article doesn't even do the justice that these guys deserve!!

Dick lives about 10 minutes from my house...and I have grown up watching these two in the Boston Marathon. They ARE local celebrities..

The fact that Dick lives to take care of his son and the triumphs that these 2 have accomplished are incredible!!

We all take every day and our own health/mortality for granted.

To see stories like this and see who the real heroes of today..not some HR hitter...or some guy that can score 30 baskets a night..or run the 40 in 3.8 seconds...

Let's see these guy do this with their kids strapped to their backs...or pushing them down the court. Manny worth $20M...I think not...fathers like Dick..priceless...too bad we don't pay to see that!!!

Dick is the total package....doesn't see it as an act of heroicism...he just sees it as an act of love between a father and son. I've never seen a Dick do an interview where he wasn't in tears about how his has positively affected his life....Dick takes little reward for his efforts...he truly is a super human being.

And as he jogs through Charlton, MA..you can tell his impact on society...as almost every car that passes him waves or toots their horns!

    Great story, wow!!

Makes me sitting at this computer feel like a total bum though!! image

On a side note, I noticed the article was by Rick Reilly. That guy is the best. If you haven't read "Who's Your Caddy" yet, you should pick it up. The chapter on John Daly is priceless and hilarious.

Most of us try to do the best they can with their kids, but some go above and beyond, like this guy. Great story...

Great story. It sure puts the last four (4) L.A. Marathons that I've run seem insignificant. My first year in 2003, a good friend pushed his grandmother in a wheelchair for the entire 26.2 miles.
