(Old man) Look I had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, “That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah”.

Chicolini: Mint? No, no, I no like a mint. Uh - what other flavor you got?
hello sub-type.
Hmmm, not shipping until October. Looks like a load em up and cancel if not a sell out.
<< <i>All this time I was thinking the reverse of one of the SAEs was a proof while the obverse had the uncirculated finish. Duh, I see now that I've actually paid attention to the wording that it is a reverse proof. WAY, WAY COOL! Who's with me? >>

"To help mark the historic occasion of the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program, the United States Mint is pleased to offer, for the first time ever, a reverse proof version of the American Eagle Silver Coins. Specially prepared dies were created to give these coins their spectacular finish. Both the proof and uncirculated American Eagles carry the “W” mint mark of West Point while the reverse proof coins carry the “P” mint mark of Philadelphia."
and features a textured, embossed leather top pad to enhance the set’s appearance."
= cheap crap from China.
do the reverse proof every year after this if these are a sell out.
They've been known to screw the collector for profits.

Isn't just about everything in America imported from China?
Ugh... Half of me is infuriated beyond words the mint is selling coins like the RCM (Can holograms be far behind?) the other half of me is overjoyed at what looks like a shot at some really nice coins and easy money. I'm left feeling sort of neutral about it.
<< <i>What'll be worth more, the Unc or the reverse proof? >>
I assume the reverse proof, not only because the uncirculated can obtained elsewhere. Or are they sticking a different mint mark on the uncirc included in this anniversary set?
The name is LEE!
Thanks,
Chris
"...To ensure the broadest and most fair access to this United States Mint product, the order limit is in effect during the first thirty (30) days of release. At the end of the initial thirty-day period, and each thirty-day period thereafter, the United States Mint will reevaluate and either extend, adjust or remove the limit..."
I guess this means the 250,000 limit (for silver set) and the 10,000 limit (for the gold set) is not set in stone.
Therefore, speculation on buying these set with "low" mintages is possibly just US Mint hype to sell the coins.
I'll buy one silver set and wait for the secondary market to kick in.
Thanks,
Chris
Maybe I read the "fine print" wrong.
I think the limit is not the mintage limit buy the purchase limit.
So, I need to retract the last posting.
Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks,
Chris

Yeah, the mint would *never* increase the mintages just because sales were going like gangbusters!
<< <i>I wonder if the Mint will have a comparable set in the future for the 10th Anniversary platinum eagles. Such a three-coin set would be priced above $5000! >>
What do you think a platinum set in 1/10 oz coins would cost?

<< <i>What is a reverse proof? Are the fields frosted and the device shiny - or what? >>
That is exactly correct.
